Thanks, NC, for sharing your thoughts and insight regarding this milestone with the community.
It's difficult to believe it's really been nine years now since I had the honor of making the first post. Back then, we had three forums and, after dayone, probably a dozen members. Overtaking the NikePark website seemed like a daunting task. We had a larger vision, though, and we set out to provide a safe,respectful community for our fellow sneaker fans from around the world. In all that time, that core goal remains unchanged.
In 1999, independently run fan sites dominated the scene. Today, we're one of the only sneaker sites left still run for the love of the game, let alone alove of community. We're surrounded on all sides by industry: manufacturers, marketers, resellers, newsblogs (though they generally fall under themarketing category - corporate press release X Ctrl-V) and yet NikeTalk remains a voice for the consumer and, we hope, a force, however slight, for positivechange. We're not always proud of how the industry has adapted to the opinions reflected on our site, but we're proud to have helped establish aplatform from which your voices can shape and influence the product offerings you care about and, more importantly, that we've created a community in whichwe're all able to interact and share with one another. The charitable donations, which should exceed $75,000 in the coming weeks, represent what we allhope to be the very tip of the iceberg, yet that figure shows how far we've come from the humblest of beginnings: a modest fan site launched in earnest bya couple of college kids hooked on Air Jordans.
None of this would be possible without Nelson, without those first few members, and all that have come since. If NT is a stage, you all pack the house andperform every single minute, now, of every single day.
Let's make this, our ninth year, the best one yet.
