Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

Quote:
Just touched down in Atlanta. I'll be here for a week on the job hunt. Fams, please let me know of anything. I'm basically starting over from scratch.
Call staffing agencies in the city and meet with them before you leave. From people on here and those I've spoken to, ATL is a desert right now when it comes to jobs.

i have a question in regards to OT. any help would be greatly appreciated.

what are the laws on OT if you are paid on a salary. i did some research and even if you are paid salary, if you work over 40 hours a week you are entitled to OT. i have also found that being paid salary means you are not entitled to OT regardless if you work more than 40 hours.

Exempt vs Non Exempt

thanks

Just landed a job as an accounting clerk. Been looking for a job for about 3 weeks as I worked a dead end job for like a year.

I love you all. Good luck everybody.

Did you upload a resume  because i'm applying for the same position and wondering if you have any tips to for me cause i really need a job.

Just want to say keep your heads up and keep pushing.. Pick your battles wisely and be the best in what your doing... People are watching. I lost a good hospital job in 2009 after that I was working part time at a school district and FNL for 2 years, then my boy put me on to a job as a contractor for lockheed.. Took it without a doubt, and literally went in on it, put in work. It's been a crazy good almost 2 years,my position let me network with just about anyone, from floor shop employees to site directors and upper management. Eventually I was the go to guy for a lot of depts. I ended up basically working 2 positions training all the supervisors and management and successfully helped get my site on track . FFWD to about a month ago, a position opened up and it basically described everything I was doing/had done.. Needless to say interview went well, it was the first time I was interviewed by a panel, :smokinI was scared as hell but I received my offer 2 weeks ago, and start JAN 6th.:smokin :smokin I suggest trying to find employment with subcontractors/contractors etc. for the Gov. Even if you're on a 1 or 2 year contract if you play your cards right and put in work networking and working you have a pretty good chance of meeting those right people. Feeling hella blessed. Working retail for a minute all I saw was a tiny light at the end of the tunnel that was to far to reach, so trust I feel y'all, just channel that energy into something positive.

Nt i filled out a million apps, and only got 1 interveiw. Hardest part of a job is getting one.

I finally got a job with this security company! Not the most pay I desired, but it will get me by and it's in my field I went to school for, so i'm not even mad! In this economy we are in, be happy to have a source of income.

What's a good job to get IMMEDIATELY that's still conducive to a career? I'm not talking about McD's or carrying boxes in a warehouse, rather something that looks good on a resume?

Career paths I'm interested in:

Marketing

Criminal Justice

I understand they are two very different discipline.
Starbucks

Congratulations, man.

I recently got a promotion from the same job I got back in July after months of searching.. so that felt pretty cool.

man, i already hooked it up to my wall and everything..........I had money and i was ok, i just wouldnt have bought it if i knew,

Oh yea

I just got a call from Express Scripts HR department
I GOT THE MOTHER FLIPPIN JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Got the call about an hour ago........Just waiting on an email with the info i need to get the drug test done.

I start July 20th!!!!!!!!!!! (Kinda sucks, but beggers cant be choosers)

Man, This feels like it was yesterday.

Ive moved up pretty swiftly in the company also.

Started off at $12.50 as a regular Rep. and did such a good job and got on the Department of Defense contract with a raise to $13.25 within 3 months of me starting with the company. Got another raise for the D.O.D. contract to $15......

Now, about a month ago, i was promoted to Floor Support / "Resolution Expert" making $18.75 an hour. (Unlimited overtime also).

Feels really good man......

And to think, i would not have applied for the position if it werent for folks in this thread making me aware that the company doesnt normally keep your employment info if you worked for them through a temp agency. (and especially since the company no longer uses this in-house temp agency)

I was unemployed for a few months and hadnt applied because i was let go 3 years earlier for "excessive internet use"...............But it all worked out in the end.

Have faith guys, the info in this thread could certainly get you were you need to be.

consider this my testimony!!!!

your resume probably lacking, or maybe it's the cover letter

if you want, you can send me a pm of your resume and i'll see what you can improve on

you can just type fake name and address and let's say you worked somewhere like starbucks, you can change that to something like joe's coffee shop to remain anonymous

Man I'm sitting at my interview right now waiting for my interviewer and I feel like just dipping

It was suppose to be at 10:30 and it's almost half past

And half the workers seem pretty hostile to each other

First, turn off the phone. Should have been the first thing you did when you got into the office.

Remind the receptionist politely that you were scheduled for an interview at 10:30.

Good observation. Could be signs of a dysfunctional culture.

Got hired at aaron's as a delivery driver last week. I've worked there for 4 days so far and its actually a pretty interesting job. a majority of the day is spent driving around the city and talking to my coworker. I get to see areas i've never been to before and seeing the way different people live is pretty cool.

a friend of mine lives in atl and said that i can crash there until i get on my feet. i'd prefer to find a job before i just pick up and move b/c i don't want to burn through my savings. any atl cats have any job leads?

update

after damn near throwing out my back lifting a refrigerator up some stairs, I decided that this job was not for me. I crashed with my friend in atl for a week and searched for jobs/ hit up temp agencies. I ended up getting an interview for a logistics position. I thought the interview went well, but I still haven't heard from them and it's been almost 2 weeks.

I hope someone calls me back soon.

I peeped usajobs and most of the applications are OD long. asking basially the same question over and over. smh. I hate overcomplicated applications, but the more sophisticated the job is, the more complex the application process is.

I've had a ton of jobs in the past 8 years so it gets SO annoying filling out job history, esp when they want it detailed for the past 5+ years.

USA Jobs is done like that to weed out applicants, plus if you're not a veteran or don't have certain clearance, good luck hearing from them. Tomorrow you need to follow up with them just to see where they stand.

Been at Best Buy for about a month and I dont know if it's all Best Buys but the organizational structure at this one is crap. I don't get why there are 1000's ways and things you have to do in order to ring a customer up. The system side of the gig is outdated and the pressure of attaching accessories to items is annoying. Geek Squad is a great service but nobody wants to spend an extra $300 after they just droped $300+ for a tablet, laptop, or computer.

I've been getting sales but no credit card apps or GSP attachments so I'm sure they'll want to "work" with me. I didn' really sign up to sell and they know that, I wanted the Geek Squad tech position that I applied for.

My other job is coo, hired as a clerk but work in the newly made call center. It saddens me how much intelligence that some people DON'T have and the fact that they are raising children makes it worse :smh:

All in all, I can't trip. I have some jobs that will give me experience in some way, shape, or form and that is priceless.

To all those still lookin, keep at it. The road of the weary is a long one, but you will see the end.

Had a phone interview with a steel production plant in memphis today, they plan on flying me out in a few weeks for a face-to-face interview. I'm a little excited but I'm a little nervous knowing that I could be moving to memphis where I don't know anyone but oh well. My grandma stays in mississippi so I won't be too far from her but still. I also have a phone interview with a business insurance company tomorrow for a Loss Control trainee position in St. Louis. hopefully I'll be employed full-time in my career within the next month fellas.

Ok, so here is the update, a job that I got an interview for back in October called me today and said that I could start training on Monday. It's unarmed security contracted with the government. it's a tough choice because I just started this current security job, so i'm not sure what I'm going to do. The current job only pays $10 an hour :smh: and the other one pays $17.77.. I know it's a given on the decision, but my issue is that I am currently in the process of getting a security license for the state of Maryland and I don't know how to tell my current employer that I want to leave..lol. Someone help me out..lol

Anyone here with Accounting experience in the ATL area? A recruiter I know emailed me and asked me to recommend someone.
