When two rappers go Back to Back on a verse, who writes it?

For example, AZ & Nas go back to back on the last verse of "The Flyest".

My question is, who writes the verse?

Since it's Nas' song, does he write it and asks AZ to spit certain bars? or do they each write a few lines and the other one matches it with a fewlines?

It prolly depends on each individual case. I don't think there is some kind of rule/tradition on who writes a verse when 2 dudes are going back &forth. And who really cares which of the 2 wrote it @ the end of the day, as long as its fire?

Makes me wonder how it went down on Brooklyn's Finest with BIG and Jay... I've heard the stories of how it went down, but that track was just toocrazy for them not to write it someone had to pick up a pen!!!!

yea i heard that jigga and big just when in the booth w/o rehearsing .all big ask for was weed and some jo

neither Big nor Jay write their lyrics in general, so I don't see any scenario in which one of them wrote it.

I honestly don't see why people think 'no pen, no pad' is such a difficult process. All it takes is repetition. If you repeat lyricsin your head so many times, its gonna stick. I'm sure most of us thought of a line or two just out and about and it always stuck. These dudes just takeit a couple steps further.

As for the whole back to back thing, I'm certain in most cases it is a collaborative effort.

if it were that easy trust me we'd have another BIG by now repeating lines is easier than having a whole catalog in ur head like they did/do as far asputtin the track down i'm sure it's a collab effort, but the way they say they laid down that track with BIG & Jay in the studio is something isepic proportions the same with I Love the Dough, and another notable...Dope Money
