NBA Off-Season News Thread: Roy extends 80/5, AI to Grizz, Chandler/Okafor swap, Marquis to C's.

No worries about not havin a pick next year, nobody comin out that goin to change the face of the Knicks anyways. It gonna take longer then one draft pick yaknow?
Hell, maybe OKC won't be able to get Durant locked up in 3-4 years, next target. Pair him with CP3, tell me how ya like it.

Obviously big dreams there, but they'll have the money, the other two teams won't, it's possible. Hell, OKC might sell every player they got justto try to re-sign Durant, don't mean he HAS to sign.

That's quite a good start to me.

So, if the Knicks don't get what they want in 2010, these conversations will go on to 2011, 2012, 2016?

I think CP is right about Amare and JJ. Look at JJ now: very decent, young core, good for the 4th seed, but everyone in here knows they don't have what ittakes to get over the hump. Put JJ with Amare and a couple of young guys, and you should get that 4th, which is a huge leap, but not necessarily enough tojustify how much money those guys want. Sign one of them and let them develop as a group, especially with D'Antoni getting them out and running. Grantedtheir picks/young guys would have to be dedicated and willing, but the Knicks could somewhat take the path of OKC in letting their young guys develop inaddition to signing a star next summer.

Agreed.

Again, there's no rule forcing you to, but it's just what good sportsmanship is about.

- Mike D'antoni will never coach a team bad enough to win the lottery. Period. Okc has focused around FOUR top 5 picks....knicks will never be able todo that.

- You really think Walsh and D'antoni can sit on their pile of money if they swing and miss on bron and wade, and say they're gona go with the sameplan (which at that point would look like a blind plan) except target the likes of melo, kd, paul, etc....? They'd be run out of town.

No. They won't.

That's why I wasn't a fan of the "2010 plan" in the first place. But, the past is the past. There's nothing you could really do to changewhat the Knicks did in the past. Last thing the Knicks want to do is to wait even longer to see if they can sign Melo, KD or Paul just to see them re-sign orgo somewhere else to another team.

Mike Antoni will never win anything either, so maybe getting him run out of town is exactly what you want. (provided you don't get Bron who may like therun and gun stuff)

No Bron, Fire Mike.......Well, if gonna make a run at CP3 I could see sticking with Mike, but short of that, he isn't a chip coach. Never will be.

I like how you didn't quote the rest of my post

both of you are calling me a homer but aren't even saying why I'm wrong about the cavs front office.

if it wasnt for robert horry being a douche, he'd have 1 already.

mike d'antoni is in the upper tier of coaches in the league, really no way around it.

Yeah, no, he isn't really worth a damn other then his offensive "genius" of just shoot right away which players love. Other then that, hedon't do nothin special. If he wasn't a Knick you wouldn't care a lick about him. Come on now....

Ehh. Maybe, maybe not.

but look at it this way. Say the cap shrinks to 50 million dollars like they are saying. The Knicks will have about 27 million in salaries if they excersizethe options on Chandler and Gallinari (which they would be pretty dumb not too). That leaves them 23 million dollars in cap room. That leaves them room forone max contract player ___________ and about 8 million for some other dude and a MLE exception. Of course this is with their roster as it currently is. Theonly way that this plan could even come close to being a good play is if the get rid of Curry, which could prove to be difficult, but not necessarilyimpossible.

So say they dont sign Lee or Nate and dont get Lebron.

Is a team of either Bosh/Amare/or JJ and Hill, Gallinari, Chandler, and money they use on random player a good team? Im sorry I just dont see a good teamthere

Other people have already told you why

....would youreally like to hear my version of the same points you've heard from 4-5 other posters?

the suns were the better team and it was obvious.

after phil, pop and probably sloan...who is undoubtedly better? larry brown? mike brown? doc rivers? svg? rick adelman?
grin.gif

suns really have done well since he left.

and cp, you dog nash and amare more than anyone...so if they aren't !*#*, and d'antoni isn't !*#* either..

how the hell did they win 62, 54, 61, and 55 games a year?????

D'Antoni is a gimmick coach just like Don Nelson. That small ball, 7 seconds in the shot clock offense does not win championships and never will winchampionships.

Offensive change that the rest of the league wasn't ready for. Every other team in the game was always focused on defense, the Kings came outwith the no defense policy, had some success in the regular season, Mavs tried it, had some success in the regular season, same with the Phoenix

NBA is LITTERED with teams that were great in the regular season and sucked in the playoffs right? Am I right? Why are the Suns any different?

They aren't.

If they were the better team over the Spurs, they woulda won. Period. If they all so great, they woulda got it done don'cha think?

Don Nelson isn't a great coach, he does many of the same things Mike does, sooooooo that ends that.

the nba still hasn't figured the system out. knicks scored plenty this year. the offense is not a gimmick.

and if you think what d'antoni and donnie nelson do is remotely the same, i can't even disucss anything further. that is a joke, sorry.

and still won what, 30 games. The system doesnt work for winning championships. Sure, if you love to win a ton of games in the regular season, and get your heart broken every year in the playoffs then go right ahead. You can get in line with Cavs fans.

You're right, two coaches who do nothin but teach fast paced offense andzero defense and get all emotional on the sidelines and cry and @#$% aren't even remotely close. sure.

winning 32 games with that roster was an accomplishment.

The cavs are the exact opposite in offensive/defensive approach and they get nowhere..so what is the thought on that?

in the end players in the nba win championships.

well if thats the case then if a team with JJ, Amare, Matrix, and Nash cant win a championship in that system then the Knicks stand zero chancebecause there is no way you will build a team like that.
