[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

Hats off to Cole...he just put out a mixtape and has been puttin out music absent of many of the cliches we have come accustomed to hearing in rap music
Music with no: Im Fly, Swag,Clothing, Drugs, Pimpin,Clubin, Jewelry, Cars, Money...

and if it is in song, its from a different perspective than the norm usually.

So yeah son gonna wear that regular irregular label to a lot of people because the listed above has actually become the regular

irregular= pain, family, school, growing up, life etc

entertainment to some, boring to others

cole is nice with his lyrics, but the beats are boring and similar, curses too much for my taste as well....and does dude really have to use the word flame in every song?

Clearly you didn't read my post thoroughly before as I mentioned "coherent verses combined with good hooks." Nobody ever said anything about JUST VERSERS.  All the songs I mentioned have coherent verses and damn good hooks! Clearly you have no idea what a good song is or what it takes to create one.

Clearly if you think Jcole can make great/good complete songs....you have no idea what one is...Like I said...His HAS GREAT BARS!!!!!

iM GIVINGGGGG HIM CREDIT!! lol But His song making ability is Terrrrribleeee.
If you are going to argue then at least argue the facts.  Are you really going to contend that all the songs I mentioned on the Warm Up are not good songs?! To just say his song making is terrible but have no supporting evidence is quite weak. I mean to each his own but if you are arguing against that material that I present then you have no idea what you are talking about.
He is inconsistent at making good songs then.....If that sounds better.....or he is just better at spitting rather than making a song...

idk what to tell you man....At the end of the day though...its Just how I feel. Sorry that you disagree.

Might as well call it a day and release this as an EP. This ##$# got me locked up for the rest of the year and into the first part of 2011.

J. Cole Complex Interview

On the response he’s received to Friday Night Lights
“When The Warm Up dropped, I watched that grow legs and work for me for a year straight. I saw it reaching people every day. With this, what’s really overwhelming—in a good way—is the amount of people. It’s all positive feedback, but the amount of people who hit me on Twitter or sent a text or quote lines on Twitter has been overwhelming. I seen people who I knew from college make comments like, ‘Wow, everybody on my timeline is quoting J. Cole.’ It’s a really cool feeling knowing that I reached a group of people I wasn’t reaching before. Hopefully, more people will see the type of music I’m trying to bring to the people.

“This mixtape was a part of my plan. I told everybody I didn’t want to release an album that was really good that went under the radar. An album that no one was interested in and only my fans got it, so only 50,000 the first week. I’m not all about first-week numbers, but I don’t want to work this hard and then have it go over people’s heads. So the mixtape is the first step to getting on that next level, and getting on more people’s radar. I think it exceeded my expectations of that. That’s step one. The next step is a single and from there it’ll lead to the album. And then the label will be comfortable putting it out. I believe in a body of work, but I do need a smash hit single. If I want to be in the game and do arenas one day, you need to have smash hit singles. But it’s possible to have smash hit singles, still be who you are, and put out classic albums.
J. Cole Talks G.O.O.D. Fridays Verse
20101117-JCOLE.jpg

J. Cole chops it up with our fam at Complex about his verse on Looking For Trouble.
“[That verse] was last minute. I got the beat the night before from my manager. But nobody told me they wanted to do it for G.O.O.D. Friday, and definitely not that G.O.O.D. Friday. I was like, ‘Oh man, that beat is dope. I’ll write to it soon.’ The next day I woke up in Kalamazoo, Michigan—I was on tour—and I was getting ready to go to Detroit because I had a radio promo event to do. So I got a call from Kanye and he was like, ‘What’s up? It’s Kanye. Can you get that verse today? I’m tryna put the song out tonight.’ I honestly didn’t think I could do it in time so I told him that. He said, ‘I’ll wait. We got engineers up all night so you got a while to do it. But if you can, have it done by today.’ I said, ‘I’ll make it happen somehow.’

“I wrote my verse on the hour-and-a-half ride to Detroit, did the radio promos, left that, went directly to the studio, laid the verse, and sent it to him by 5 o’clock. Mind you, I didn’t hear anybody else’s verses or the song itself, I just heard the beat and did my verse. I drove back to Kalamazoo and did the show. When I got offstage, he had just put the song out, and I sat back and watched all the comments as people went crazy. It was a beautiful night.

“I don’t know what it is [when it comes to features]. What it comes from is fear, that’s why I go so hard [on guest spots]. I’m a real competitor. It’s just a fear of somebody besting me and dominating me with a better verse. Not every song is like that, but on a song like ‘Looking For Trouble’ it is. It’s that spirit of hip-hop: Let’s see who can come the best. I don’t know if I’m going to have the best verse, but I know ain’t nobody just gonna kill me.

Autograph was on repeat this morning.  Beat so smooth and my favorite "I wouldn't say you a ho3 just made a ho3 decision"

Nah, it's just that when he curses you really hear it

Homey puts the most emphasis on the F word and B word. Like if you had him in the background not paying attention you'd look up when he drops the F bomb.

SMH @ NT "hip-hop fans" always wanting a rapper to have star quality. Why does every rapper have to be a star and appeal to the masses?? Some artists like Cole do their thing and make good music and may never appeal to the masses. What I have liked about Cole and still do is he gets making quality music and albums are key. He wants a smash hit to take himself to the next level but he also wants to make good music. I think artists who focuses on making good music first consistently instead of just going for whatever is catchy are the ones who make great works of art. If Cole keeps his focus and talking the way he does then I believe he is well on his way to delivering a great work of art.

Question...

What's he mean on Autograph when he says

"You can throw the pork in me, here's my new years resolution no more pork in me."

Theres gotta be a deeper meaning than no more eating pork, and I don't think he's saying he has a side to him thats like a cop. Pork, pig? Anyone?

to the fullest

Between this, Yeezy, and Tyga's new mixtape I'm lovin' the new music. Might give Nicki a spin soon, not really sure what to expect from that.

J.Cole is about to blow the @#%+ up in the next year or two IMO. I know hes 'decently' known as of now but I think he'll be doin real big things soon. His music is much appreciated.
