Eh. More maintenance.
so? looking good is something you're supposed to take pride in doing, we're not taking about jumpin off da metrosexual plank, but aint nuffin a greater feeling

them hopping off that barber chair with da cleanest cut soon as you get sprayed down with alcohol and peep yourself in da mirror, that feeling you get when you

catch your reflection is as if you mentally just went 35-10-7 in a NBA game wit a game winning buzzer beater.

damb, so where do we hispanics fall into this race war?.....

ive grown up shaping up my hairline, is not because of hiphop or anything else other than thats my comfort zone, I have a hair stylist which i visit every month or so for a cut and a barber who lines me up every week, nothing unproffesional about my look...

As a white manager in corporate America, I see nothing wrong with it. There are some that take the look really far and end up looking cartoonish, but there are folks of every race/group that take looks too far and end up looking cartoonish in their own ways. To each their own. If being edged up keeps you feeling confident and feeling good, you're likely to do better work IMHO, so rock what works for you.

Edit. Forgot to add, I've never personally heard of or witnessed any conversations about hair being 'too black' or 'too ethnic' before. That's not to say that it doesn't happen, but generally speaking in life, most people don't invest as much time thinking about others as you internally believe they do. There are always bigoted ********, but I've been lucky enough to not encounter them.

Dude in here wilding. Asking for a non crisp line up. What is good with you? Might as well not get a cut. Sus.

Jeez, whats with the grave digging lately.

With that being said, old successful black dudes have horrible hairlines

Might come as a surprise to some of you, but it's entirely possible to be clean cut w/o having a "crisp" hairline. Shocking, I know.

Fools out here with that Larenz Tate Terrance Howard  line ups.smh

This fool hair be peezy as hell in all his movies. But crisp when he's not in a role.

Aint NO WAY in hell imma get a cut with out a line up.

I dont think ANYBODY actually looks at your hairline when they judge you in a professional manner, smh.

Now having a unibrow is different.lol

how is it irony? i aint much different then you b, you just choose to play in da metro arena and i rather rock out in da hood ****

but under da exterior lies da same platform of uptown ****** that like to be fly.

to put it in car terms, you rather be a Chrysler 300c and i rather be a dodge charger R/T..different trimmings, same platform.

at da end of da day, i got a feeling this anger at shapeups is misplaced because certain people's pockets aint right for da upkeep..umm

its called have your own

I get my hair lined up every 2 weeks maybe 3 if I'm lazy. As long as I shave every 2 days. I'm good to go.

all of the black execs in my company have what Obama has, reading through the thread this is what is considered a "Natural shape up"?

Lol, you guys are crazy if you think white people actually care about line-ups, tapers, and the like. They only know the difference between short, long, braids, and dreads. Yeah, they usually think braids, dreads, and super large afros are unprofessional, but they couldn't care less about shape-ups, tapers, waves, or short fros that are well-kept.

I don't think the most of them know the difference between braids and dreads.

Which is why when Melo cut his hair and ESPN claiming, "Carmelo Anthony cut off his dredlocks" was so damn funny to me.

My whole life I've had  tape ups. I personally don't consider it "good looking" if I get a haircut and don't get taped up. When I was a jit I had the high bald fade with the sharp side burns and once my beard game got cracking it's either been braids, curly fro, or temple fade. The only blacks/latinos I know who don't get tapes are those who came up in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and like others have said, that wasn't the thing back in their day. Hell even when I was in middle school and I started picking my own haircuts my pops followed suit and gave tapes a shot himself.
laugh.gif

I applied for a job once right after high school where they told me, and I quote: "you're definitely qualified for the job, but before we consider you for an interview you need to lose the sharp sideburns and square off your haircut around the ears and back." I politely declined THAT job offer. My current job is a government contract, so you have mostly older whites and blacks, and I keep a weekly tape up with lines on the side and even simple designs in the back if I get bored and I don't catch any flack for it at all (the older yambs be having that thirst!). Hell when I had the initial interview for this job (about 4 years ago) and I came in with fishbone braids and a fresh tape and got hired right after my drug test came back.

And to the people saying the lighter you are the dumber it'll look, I have the same complexion as the dude in the pic w/ the destroyed tape and my "grow back" has always been very little up front, so I guess I'm lucky in that regard, but the back of my neck is another story.
