Another thing I thought about was bag bulkiness. Those Incase bags seem huge - are bulky camera bags just unavoidable..? Right now I don't have much gear but it'd be cool if I didn't have to upgrade later on because I got too much gear so maybe a big bag is the life of a photographer...

Same. I think a couple people have attempted it or at least mentioned it but we've never followed through with it. Let's do it!

I have a small camera backpack and it is a total pain considering I like to shoot stuff on the go. I took it to NYC and hated just having to take off my back pack every time to change lenses. The sling seems more ideal for that in tha situation. I'd only carry a bag if I had tons of equipment cause it would be better for my back then a sling would.

ok as far as the assignments would you all rather do weekly, bi-weekly or monthly? I'm down for any but would rather side with bi weekly or monthly just to see if we can actually get this going on a consistent basis.

I run the photography contest on iss and usually I set a topic for each week for about 15 weeks. It's simple; I come up with a topic that's open for anyone for one week. Anyone can submit. Submissions would be either through me or someone is willing to post every Monday. Monday - Wednesday for voting and winners announced every Friday. Every Friday/weekend, the title of this thread will change for the new topic. Keeps going until 15 weeks is done/over. It will be done over a point system consisting of 1st, 2nd & 3rd. No vote's equals no points and anyone can tie for points. Winners will be announced and point will be added. If anyone is down with this, I wouldn't mind running it, someone can help as well. 
I just feel we need a separate thread considering every page we get questions on everything photography/videography/film related.

I agree with needing a new thread for this assignment thing. I'm def down to help if you want to take lead. Lets start a new thread and gauge interest for a few days, then get started on the themes?

Trust that a bi weekly assignment will drag out, we've done this on ISS before, I haven't been there in a whole but like Rolo said is still running, I know ya hate the site, but if we are to do an assignment thread we should model after theirz, as it works and has been running for a while, here on NT without a designated photography forum an assignment thread that goes on for 2 weeks will get drowned in general.

I think one time we had almost 3 weeks to do a project and only like a handful of people posted stuff up. Unfortunately for whatever reason, these things always die on there forum. I think the best one we had was the panoramic assignment but once it got into things like portraits, everyone just stopped after that. I think the assignment has to be really simple but interesting enough where people still have to go out and shoot (which is the whole idea). If we start getting into crazy topic, I imagine a lot of people just shooting stuff in their house.

Still, I am down to submit photos. Instagram heads have a whole month long shooting project similar to this and I think it is stupid but yet people are doing it on a daily basis. I think a two week deadline can't be that hard.

Pat - Great stuff with the car shoot as always.

As stated above, without a separate thread, the contest will fall off. I don't know how it's going to work without one, plus when someone doesn't know what topic is for this/next week or what the rules are, it will get unorganized. I am down to submit for each week.
