Newb checking in, Just turned 21 recently. I grew a liking for stouts. Anyone wanna suggest where I should start and where to buy? I live in the Bay Area, Ca if that matters.

Dang Comparison Ford. Hefty haul there. Since my fridge cleaning, I have only picked up a 12 pack of Shiner Oktoberfest on sale.. I hope to stay away from TW for awhile. Im super super tempted to pick up more Marble BBA stout (2012). I know a place in town that has quite a stash. But it's $14-$15 bucks

Firestone Walker Parabola. Velvet Merkin and Merlin

Agree... certain breweries will survive but so many are opening that won't be around in Grand Rapids in 2 years... Starting to see bar-stilleries opening up around town... Looks like the "craft liquor" craze will be starting up soon.

Same thing here! My brother in law, my cousin, and I were stocking up for craft beer before a weekend of Bachelor shenanigans along with all the lites of the world. We ended up spending WAY more than we thought due to RR and LostAbbey.

It's seasonal. Their site says available from sept to dec, but I'm in GR so It's everywhere.

Marble BBA Imperial Stout (2012) x2. I got their last two '12s. Plenty of '13s left and in a month or so, their '14 arrives.. So underrated man.
Stone XOCOVEZA bomber. Heard really really good things about this. It finally hit my area, a good month later it would appear.
La Cumbre Project Dank x 2. 9/27/14 batch. Super excited to try this one. Im not sure what exactly is in this batch

As a San Diegan, I love seeing new breweries popping up every week. Competition is good for everyone. Everybody has to step up their game and (hopefully) produce a good product at a competitive price. If only somebody can top Sculpin at a better price down here......
I don't think there's going to be a "bubble" in the sense that people will drink craft beers at a lesser quantity and turn to BMC. The crappier breweries will get weeded out though and newcomers will have a more difficult time entering the market.

I will say, if Founders made it around my way, no complaints.. I am looking at it more from a distribution POV. There is only so much shelf space. I see some breweries really eager to expand, or expand outside of their current foot print and make their brand "national". Your product may be above average or even stellar. But some of these breweries do need to know their role in all of this. If Founders or Bell's grows to my area, thats two less other products. Unless those other products are BMC, it sorta sucks for everyone. Shelf space may open a bit. But when Founders comes to down, I may no longer want 3-4 local products. I just question how some places will fit in. I do love the variety. I hate spending $4.50 a pint for an average product. I'm almost building a BMC brand like loyalty to certain beers by certain breweries. It will be very tough for some to enter and find their niche... I definitely welcome it. But hate seeing places so empty or providing bad beer that people actually "like"
Comparison Ford, what was the ABV on that vintage Robi?
XOCOVEZA is legit.. WOW. All those flavors come to life..Cocoa- YES. Coffee- YES. Peppers- YES. Vanilla, Cinnamon, and nutmeg- yes, yes, and yes.. This really hits a nice spot in my belly.
Before that, I had a Shiner Oktoberfest.. Very solid. Nothing spectacular.. Then a Guiness Foreign Extra Stout.. Light notes of dark fruit. Not much else but very very smooth and creamy. Big points for that stuff.. BA score rings true.. Then an Obsidian Stout by Deschutes.. Straight forward with great notes of chocolate and roasted malts.

According to their website it said my safeway had it, just checked bit they didn't have it
I was going for stone's imperial stout, but my safeway didn't have any so I went with the next available which was Old Rasputin's which is funny because I didn't noticed you recommended it to me. can't wait to try

Man oh man...Thursday and Friday in Denver we're where it's at.
What The Funk!? was beyond ridiculous. 30+ breweries pouring wild, funky, sour and barrel-aged beers. What a great time...had over 30 samples/pours that were all insane. The best one was Wicked Weed's Amorous sour IPA. It was borderline transcendent.
Other standouts were from The Rare Barrel, Virtue Cider, Side Project, Jester King and a lot more. Tried to stay away from the locals that I drink often but had to get a couple Crooked Stave rarities and Hogshead's Hog Wild IPA served from a legit oak firkin.
And then GABF was on Friday...went straight to Three Floyds for Zombie Dust and Permanent Funeral then to New Glarus for Serendipity and Brown Peach, then it was on...Saint Archer, Societe, Allagash, SingleCut Beersmiths, a bunch of Pa. breweries (wife is from there) and a ton more.
My Untappd was at 100 samples for the night but the official count was 101 because I didn't feel like manually entering one of them. The biggest surprise of the fest was the beers from Adroit Theory, a nano from Purcellville, Va. Had never heard of them, their booth looked cool so we stopped. And wow...they were killer.
And Fegley's Brew Works' Devious Imperial Pumpkin Porter was beyond bonkers. Best pumpkin beer I've ever tried...better than Pumking. For real.

Glad you hit up SingleCut. They're making some great beers. Billy Full Stack is arguably the best IPA to come out of NY.
In other news: Torst just won a Michelin star for their food menu. It's really a must for anyone visiting NYC that appreciates good beer.
