NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Looking for a pat on the back here. Totally passed up an unlimited amount of Abyss today.. $15.99.. I'm trying for something new. I was sorta bummed last night when I had a $24 bomber of Barrel Aged Old Rasputin. It was good but something was missing.. That beer really struck a nerve with me. I tend to drink beer and move onto the next ASAP. Liking a rare beer is a tough position to be in.. Congrats, now I can't find it or have to spend way too much to keep up that habit. Only six pack/four packs will be an attempt of mine for the rest of the year.

Instead , as I intended, I used up their $1 off six/four pack coupon and put it to full use...
Ended up with a case worth of beer:
-2 x elevated 4 packs, week old
- 1 x Ten Fidy (this is now my GO TO imperial stout) four pack, dated 11/20/14. Never seen it so fresh
-1 Palauner Munich Helles six pack for the pops
-1 Deschutes Chasing Freshies six pack (dated best by 3/11/15)

Nice! Chasing Freshies is one of the best IPA's I've had this year. Big fan of Mosaic hops.

i got a pack of heady topper sitting in the fridge...but been sick all week :smh:

I've heard good things about this year's Chasing Freshies. I had it last year and thought it was ok. Will have to pick up a sixer soon.

Wassup with all these outrageous prices for some of the BA bombers? BA Narwhal was $20-24, BA Old Raspy was $23-25. Fifty Fifty Imperial Stouts just hit shelves here and they're going for $29.99/bomber :wow:. I don't think I can justify paying that much for a 22oz beer.

This brings ups an interesting point: so many people complain about the price of a 4-pack of BCBS...but if you do the math, a bomber's worth of BCBS would be about $12.  If Goose Island only released BCBS in $12 bombers, people would rant and rave about what a good deal they're getting for such a high quality BA imperial stout.

Just something to think about.

I've been wanting to try Fifty Fifty for a few years now. Last year they finally brewed in Pappy barrels again, but that $30 price point keeps me away every time I see it.

Maybe this year, I'll go halfsies with a buddy on the Buffalo Trace variant.

Considering how much I really like BCBS (i had one right before BA Old Ras'), and the seemingly normal 4 pack price, bombers do not make sense.

La Cumbre is having their 4th anniversary party this weekend.

Currently in bombers--- Pinot G. wine barrel aged Smoked Porter
They will be releasing a Rum barrel aged 10.5% English style barley wine this weekend..
La Negra, a RIS, will be on cask.
Their 3rd anniversary Beligan Quad will make an appearance, having a year of age on the keg.
Many more old stock of bottles and other obscure beers may be releasing.. My hope is to try most on site, without a single bomber purchase. But if anyone has any interest, let me know.. I'm guessing some surprises may pop up too.

And it seems like I read the Deschutes bottles wrong. I picked up the Fresh Squeezed IPA.. It's still very solid though. Easy drinker. Not a hop bomb. At only a month old, the aroma seems diminished. I'd put this at the 4, tettering 4.5 level that almost every single brewery is producing now with their IPAs. Slight hints of the citra and mosaic hops. Body feels mediumish to heavy. Mouthfeel as well. It doesnt drink heavier than its abv, so its still sessionable for me. BA of 95 seems a touch high imho. I do have 5 more from the sixer. My palette tends to change over the course of days depending on what I eat or dont eat.

Odell IPA (I had 3 from that variety pack purchase over the course of two weeks). I felt that it opened up quite nicely. I dont know why it would be better with some age. But the hop notes and aromas really came out towards that last beer. Buying sixers is cheaper than bombers, but more expensive than singles. But I feel your taste buds can go through down days. Re try beers atleast 3 times before calling them off.. That's my advice to new beer drinkers

If you like the Vietnames Coffee Speedway Stout, there are a whole bunch of stouts out there as good and better.

Hmmmm.......name them.

Off the top of the head, these are at the very least as good...BCBCS, FBS, Parabola, Imperial Biscotti, Abyss.

I've never tried Hunahpu's, Dark Lord, Mexican Cake, etc. but I'm sure are as good too.

I'm not sure matching BBA stouts to a non-BBA stout means much. They're just two completely things IMO.

I'll agree that FBS is pretty damn tasty though. Haven't had any of the other non-BBA stouts you listed.

You're right about BBA vs. non-BBA, I was simply naming off stouts. But as far as specifically non-BBA, Evil Twin, Mikeller, and Oskar Blues make some as good as Speedway, IMO.

I am a huge fan of Speedway, by the way. Its been my go to for a while!

^ That sucks. The liquor stores around my way are selling them for $17.99. I swear some of these spots are just gouging folks just because they know they can :smh:.

You try the JBM Speedway? I'm bout to try that tomorrow night. If you have, which one you think is better, the Vietnamese or the Jamaican Blue Mountain?

.
That's the whole point of over paying for just about any beer. I know I overpaid for Bourbon County but where I got it from was smaller places than say Binny's. Smaller supply, higher price. Just speaking in general, but some times it's the only option folks have.

Stopped by my local BevMo tonight and they had Abyss on sale for $13.99. Just a heads up!
i bought it the day it came in to my local BevMo for $17.99. that same local Bevmo has almost 40 bottles in stock right now. on sale for $13.99. grrr

Heads up SoCal heads, the bruery is releasing 2012 and 2013 Black Tuesday bottles today as part of their 12 Days of Christmas sale. Limit 1 each per person. Sale happens at 1:30. Tasting room only.

^I'm driving down to Socal today for a wedding. Won't be there until about 6pm though. Hopefully they'll have some left.

Really good Porter from Cigar City:

Really wishing I was in the Twin Cities this weekend cause there's a big Surly release going on tonight, along with a bunch of other seasonally limited stuff.
