2012 Toyota GT-86 / SCION FRS/ BRZ - FRS $24,930 MSRP

Whats the point of getting a '12 Evo  .

And HAD? What you do to it?

I think the back is too round, but I love the front end. Maintenance wont be too bad either.

:frown: Sold her in prep for the new ride. The reviews and look of the BRZ sold me. I liked my car with the aero, but the issues X's are known for like timing chain busting and clutch master cylinder upgrades needed scared me away from doing more. I want a car with higher quality components from the factory. Mitsubishi ought to be ashamed.

Well there is a reason why Mitsubishi is always in the bottom of sales numbers these days. To be honest I am surprised they haven't folded yet.

http://blogs.wsj.com/drivers-seat/2012/08/03/toyota-recalls-778000-vehicles-for-suspension-flaw/
Three separate but related recalls of automobiles by Toyota Motor Corporation occurred at the end of 2009 and start of 2010. Toyota initiated the recalls, the first two with the assistance of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), after reports that several vehicles experienced unintended acceleration. The first recall, on November 2, 2009, was to correct a possible incursion of an incorrect or out-of-place front driver's side floor mat into the foot pedal well, which can cause pedal entrapment. The second recall, on January 21, 2010, was begun after some crashes were shown not to have been caused by floor mat incursion. This latter defect was identified as a possible mechanical sticking of the accelerator pedal causing unintended acceleration, referred to as Sticking Accelerator Pedal by Toyota. The original action was initiated by Toyota in their Defect Information Report, dated October 5, 2009, amended January 27, 2010.[1] Following the floor mat and accelerator pedal recalls, Toyota also issued a separate recall for hybrid anti-lock brake software in February 2010.[2]

As of January 28, 2010, Toyota had announced recalls of approximately 5.2 million vehicles for the pedal entrapment/floor mat problem, and an additional 2.3 million vehicles for the accelerator pedal problem. Approximately 1.7 million vehicles are subject to both.[3][4] Certain related Lexus and Pontiac models were also affected.[5][6] The next day, Toyota widened the recall to include 1.8 million vehicles in Europe and 75,000 in China.[7] By then, the worldwide total number of cars recalled by Toyota stood at 9 million.[8] Sales of multiple recalled models were suspended for several weeks as a result of the accelerator pedal recall,[9] with the vehicles awaiting replacement parts. As of January 2010, 21 deaths were alleged due the pedal problem since 2000, but following the January 28 recall, additional NHTSA complaints brought the alleged total to 37.[10][11] The number of alleged victims and reported problems sharply increased following the recall announcements,[10][12] which were heavily covered by U.S. media,[13] although the causes of individual reports were difficult to verify.[14][15][16] Government officials, automotive experts, Toyota, and members of the general public contested the scope of the sudden acceleration issue and the veracity of victim and problem reports.[17][18][19] Various parties attributed sudden unintended acceleration reports to mechanical, electric, and driver error causes.[20][21][22] Some US owners that had their recalled vehicles repaired still reported accelerator pedal issues, leading to investigations and the finding of improper repairs.[23][24] The recalls further led to additional NHTSA and Toyota investigations,[25][26] along with multiple lawsuits.[27]

On February 8, 2011, the NHTSA, in collaboration with NASA, released its findings into the investigation on the Toyota drive-by-wire throttle system. After a 10 month search, NASA and NHTSA scientists found no electronic defect in Toyota vehicles.[28] Driver error or pedal misapplication was found responsible for most of the incidents.[29] The report ended stating, "Our conclusion is Toyota's problems were mechanical, not electrical." This included sticking accelerator pedals, and pedals caught under floor mats.[30]

... i only buy honda's...

haters gonna hate; Toyota going out of its way to fix the mechanical error is what I call good company responsibility. All cars have some problems with them at some point in the line, Honda's are no exception, obviously. Their automatic transmissions have been known to be faulty.

From the NY Times:
Honda told the safety administration that the problem was that “certain operating conditions can result in heat build-up between the countershaft and secondary shaft second gears.” That could lead to “gear tooth chipping or, in vary rare cases, gear breakage.” It is possible, the automaker said, that the transmission could lock up, increasing the chance of a crash.

Both Toyota and Honda are known to be reputable car manufacturers because of their good safety record, anyone can tell you that. If you want to believe that an automotive company should be infallible, you probably have no business making jabs at engineering mistakes.

seen a white one going down northgate blvd in Sac. some cutie pie was driving it. Car is a neck breaker for sure. looks reallly good in white. :smokin

FR-S vs ILX?

Not even a contest. ILX is the Civic of Acura. FWD, 150HP with a 5-speed auto for $27,500 and 0-60 of 9.3 seconds... Unless you are looking for luxury amenities, I wouldn't even consider the ILX at all. And even then, there are better options, I mean the TSX is only $3k less than the ILX.

Little kids, leave this thread. You like what you like, every company has its problems.

who in the hell you calling little kid?... i know you aint talking to me... all im saying is, dont say you only buy this brand because of build quality when it has had its faults.. the only real problem i know from honda is the transmission from 99-04 TL and accord....

yes honda needs to step up and give us a S2000 or something in a 25k -30k price range... the only thing left is the civic si...

Honda's problem is their V6 auto transmissions PERIOD.

They are a great quality and reliable company. But they haven't seem to fix their V6 auto transmission problems yet.

i have plenty of friends and family with the newer v6 transmission and nothing has happened yet... from TL, TSX, MDX and PILOTS

That's because they're still new  Just wait... Insert animal *Soon* pics

I rep Honda all day... most of my relative are Honda enthusiasts, my homegirl's husband owns HonDoctors (in Las Vegas)

So I'm knocking Honda AT ALL! But their V6 auto ****** sucks!

I have an MDX, but the ****** has been worked on before. Honda makes engines that last forever, but I wish I could say the same for the ******s. I wouldn't knock a car company for making a mistake, as long as the car runs good for the most part.

Honda needsto rerelease the S2000 or the stop playing and make the HSV for the consumer
700
To challenge this
Honda is gonna release a $37,000 2 seat convertible or FR NSX prototype that would probably cost $100,000+ to compete with a $27,000 2+2? Right.

Closest comparison is Integra Type R which is fwd.

Honda should consider bringing back the Integra Type R and make it rwd.

Right. They need to either re-engineer the s2000 to become cheaper or just go with an Integra coupe... Hell even the Prelude. Something. But as it stands, Honda has an awful rep with tuners right now.
