Dude was just trying to get out of that street life and just like many of the characters in the show (Carcetti, McNulty, etc.) , had to short-sell/sell out in order to move up. Yes, the man became a little punk towards his final demise, but looking back all dude ever wanted to do was get out of the drug game and get into a 'legit' business. The man went to community college and studied Macro Economics for Christ's sake.

Nah, I don't think you're wrong to think that of Stringer since he was a character that could elicit different responses from different people. I think Stringer was specifically written to buck the stereotype of all drug dealers being violent thugs. He was indirectly involved with violence, sure, but he mainly wanted to turn enough profit to become legitimate. At the end, however, I would weigh him as an arrogant hypocrite. He thought he was above The Game's violent ways, despite killing Wallace & D'Angelo and attempting to kill Brother Mouzone & Clay Davis. The Game came roaring back to cast a final judgment on Stringer, in the form of Omar and Mouzone. At least, that's my opinion of him.

I like this video.

Nevermind the fact that he slept with D'Angelo's wife and then put a hit on D'Angelo
roll.gif
and later when the Barksdale crew was weak, Avon bought him some legit muscle in Brother Mouzone and String basically put a hit on him too
laugh.gif
. And then dude tries to put a hit on Clay Davis and then straight snitches on Avon
laugh.gif
. Cat gets no respect from me.

Yeah but this is all season 3. Dude was very level minded and smart up to that point. He just lost his poise point blank, started making moronic decisions. He was a respectable character IMO up until that point...then he was a straight chump.
All in all, one of my favorite all time tv characters.

D'Angelo was messing around on Donnette though. plus String never respected dude from jump. i guess we are forgetting how D was giving all kinds of info up once he got caught w/ the brick. D'angelo was the same dude about to write a letter to some imaginary kids. Dude wasn't built for the game.

yeah what he did to wallace was foul, but string was that dude.

Two wrongs don't make a right homie. That letter scene was hilarious tho

. And yeah, he gave up Bey, but afterwards Brianna had convinced him to take the years. I never got the vibe that dude was gonna snitch after that. he just wanted everyone to leave him alone after he agreed to take the years.

in the words of Chris Rock, "i'm not saying what he did was right, but i understand why he did it"

D's track record alone was enough for String to get him killed.

This.  All of This.

D'Angelo was the reason %$@+ went downhill to begin with.  Lying on bodies that he never caught to boost his cred with Boodie & Co.  Coward #@$ boy was soft as baby %$@+ they should've let his #@$ rot when he caught HIS body. Would've been better for business.

I may have mentioned it before, but the Wire is the most hip hop show I've ever watched. I watched season 1 just a few months after reading Jay-Z - Decoded, and everything Jay talked about in his book was coming to life on screen. It also reminded me of Wu-tang, more specifically OB4CL and Ghostface's Fishscale. With that said, did anyone else start to wonder how many companies are backed by drug traffic? Stringer was trying to go the legit route, and use drug money to fund his enterprises. The idea behind 'corporate' drug lords was pretty well laid out. Am I reaching or did anyone else see it too?

^^ I had no idea that was from the Wire. I had the exact same reaction when I saw that scene

Maybe.  But Stringer wasn't even built like that for real.  The primary reason he had D'Angelo killed wasn't because he was a potential liability to the organization, it was because he was jealous of the fact that D'Angelo was Avon's blood family and he wasn't.  I mean, dude started messing with D's wifey who wasn't even that bad a chick or no true "queen" type just to dominate D in his (Stringer's) own mind.

I'm not sticking up for D'Angelo cause I really didn't like him too much either but Stringer was a snake.  Smart dude who had some great ideas but a snake nonetheless...

i'm not seeing it like that at all. i don't understand being jealous of someone lower than you on the totem pole. i mean, String was telling D who not to pay. they barely let this dude in Orlando's. "you just a worker and your boss is my man" -LL

and creepin w/ Donnette was only to keep any eye on D'Angelo's frail self. String knew dude was going to fold. basically he was protecting the business

D'Angelo was lower on the totem pole in the organization but he was NOT lower on the totem pole with regards to Avon's loyalty and that's where Stringer's jealousy stemmed from.  Avon would always say things like "D is family," "That's my blood," etc. in front of Stringer and he would always have a look on his face like "**#! that 'family' and 'blood' stuff."  String knew deep down that he would never have the relationship with Avon that D did simply because they were not related by blood.

If Stringer did the things D was, Avon would have had dude killed simply because he was a true goon and he didn't take chances.  He wouldn't have had to but he would have anyway.  But he didn't.  He let D slide on some stuff due to their familial bond that no one else in the organization would have gotten away with and Stringer was jealous of his protection of D under the family umbrella.

And he was messing with Donnette even after he killed D.

hahaha son so many random gifs came to mind when i finally saw where they were really from haha.

this is my favoit e show of all time. i was sad as hell when it ended. it was real enough it couldve gone on forever.  !#%% was like real life and real life doesnt stop.

stringer was my favorite.  he's tied with omar to me.  string was like 'the 48 laws' in the flesh. everything is done was the matter at hand.  success is the only thing that matters.  dude was cold, but you kinda have to be.  omar was robin hood.  he had rules. morals. dude was hilarious. season 1 braids were lowkey A.I. crispy lol. i was sick when he got it.  smh. it was sad when wallace got bodied, but son was snitching tho..

avon > marlo

...avon was the only one that kept it G to the very end, didn't understand until i was GROWN but him and stringer DID make a good team.
i understand NOW why stringer made the moves he made. they grew apart in ambition and thirst

Avon was better than Marlo, but Avon's mindset of going at Marlo and Omar at the same time was his downfall. Especially since he had little to no muscle to go at both parties.

I will say that Marlo was very smart/ruthless for getting the connect for himself. I don't think Avon would have done this.

I was torn. I was upset it was ending, but then again I didn't want them to drag it out and have it crawl to the finish line like Entourage. As Simon said, all the stories they wanted to get out there were told. Cops, dealers, fiends, politics, media, educations, justice system, ports, etc etc etc.

Basically I felt they ended it at the right time. Season 5 wasn't great, but it didn't tarnish the show's legacy either.

I always wanted them to go into detail about chris in the military

would have been some great commentary

^^^^^ my mans was in the forces??? when was this revealed... and would it explain his personality?

I heard rumors about Simon wanting to go that route. I remember simon talking about wanting to explore it

The way he handled himself screams military trained

when he was searching houses for Omar. The way he threw his knife point first into the ground. The way he didn't question marlo and just straight up followed orders. Even his cool and calm demeanor. Seems like he was already desensitized to violence.

I remember a rumor about some sticker on chrus truck that was military related but now I can't find any info on it. would have been a great story to show how the US government trains this guy, he comes back can't find a job so he uses these tools for the game
