Kobe 7 "SYSTEM" reviews

^
2k4s are beasts on the court. simple and has everything going smoothly.

you can't switch the tongues but you can ID the tongue you want. so a bootie
on an attack fast insole and vice-versa can be done.

Interested to hear more about these. I am skeptical play strong in all honesty. I remember people complaining about the hyperfuse having cushlon with zoom only in the forefoot and saying that wasn't a suitable setup. Now Nike is giving a full cushlon midsole with no air. On paper at least it seems like a step back. I'm a big fan of cushlon's feel especially compared to phylon. But I still believe it should be coupled with some form of air. With that being said, I'd like to hear some more opinions on performance and if its worth a try.

personally i stay away from foam-only midsoles. they tend to bottom out no matter what they say that it won't.

Well, I have worn the play strong 5 times and man, I am so dissappointed with the Kobe 7's! I too was having chaffing on my foot in the exact same spot that the sneakerfile reviewer showed a picture of! I took them off before it got that bad, but it was on its way to being a blister. Nike has really taken a step back with the 7's when it comes to performance. My feet get tired in these and they feel heavy. Im so used to the Kobe 5 an 6 (BEST SHOES EVER!!!!) I have zero confidents in my moving side to side, specially on defense. They slip and slide out and dont respond well on the hardest of cuts. They feel too high off the ground. I cant seem to get a great fit in these either, if you lace them too tight, it digs into your foot and hurts, but if you tie them a bit loose, there is no lockdown and you foot slides around. I am gonna start playing in the play fast insoles this weekend, I'll give them a few wearing and write if theres any difference. The 7's are the nicest looking Kobe's of all time IMO, but they dont perform as well as any of the first 6 shoes. I would take 1-6, 2k4 and 2k5 over the 7s to play in.

I loved zoom air. only thing I know. but the play strong insert is a revelation. play strong insert > kobe 4/5/6 zoom air set up. It's almost as bouncy as Zoom
but with an unmatched level of comfort and support. I would imagine about at least 20 games before you start to notice any deterioration or bottoming out.
Too those comparing this to the lunar foam in the zk4, that's completely different. Nike has since improved it's formula and you'll notice that right away so
bottoming out will be delayed for sure. It will happen eventually but you'll get your money's worth for sure.

a review from this guy who made another thread named: first impressions on the play strong insole or whatever...

I played outdoors because Glendale and Burbank, CA have almost no indoor courts, I think it's a city ordinance or something, it's ridiculous.  These are definitely NOT outdoor shoes, next time I play outside I'm gonna being wearing Hyperfuses for sure.  They were certainly capable of performing outdoors but considering I was playing on what must be the world's dustiest court, you do not wanna get the non-synthetic parts of this shoe very dirty.  Finally, what everyone's been talking about: blistering.  I come from a running background so I'm no stranger to severe blistering and I can largely ignore it at this point.  I'd try to limit my time in the Zoom Kobe VII if I was worried about blistering though because when turning the corner on my right foot, I could definitely feel some rubbing in the midfoot that got gradually more noticable/painful and could see where blistering might be a problem.  Despite limited time on-court (probably about an hour), I thought the shoes held up for the most part on a variety of lay-ups and cuts.  Overall, I'm giving these an 8/10.

thanks ekbenzo. my girl loves them tsinelas. LOL

Nightwing 2303 actually played in Nike Elites and he still
had blisters... personally never had blisters in these but
the laces digging onto my foot isn't good.

theres no way preventing the play strong sleeves velcro rubbing against the collar even if u strap it all the way it still rubs and messes it up smh

someone mentioned that if you trim the velcro it helps with the rubbing issues

Wow!! I thought I was the only one with the issue of laces digging into the foot. Not a good look Nike! :/

even if you trim it, it would only lessen it but not fully prevent it.

and yeah, if the shoe had a more padded sleeve on the top part
of the foot where the laces converge then the kobe 7 System
would have been the best in the kobe line. WOULD HAVE BEEN.

I believe this isn't an issue to some? I envy the lucky ones.

i dunno about you but lace pressure seems like a minor issue compared to all the people getting blisters on their feet

I wouldn't say minor issue man. It really did hurt my feet and it was a weird feeling.
and it hurts. I got blisters too but it was from my socks.

Imagine running hard and having a stick press against your feet. LOL
that's how it felt for me since I tied it firmly. If I tie it a little loose, the lockdown will
go away completely.

I think with all these "passers" I'll probably at least get a few pairs.....
I woke up OLD the other day and realized, I need a lot more protection and wrapping around my whole body than ever before....
these ankle thingamajigs are perfect for an old man like me.

Whassup' old fella'! Being one myself, I can say that the wraps do lock in heat, keeping the ankles warm, but they offer no protection whatsoever. The shoe itself is cool, a little clunkier than last years model, but the top laces come up to the point of a low/mid shoe, instead of the quarter highs that are being passed off as hightops today, or the really low lows that are considered oxfords. My ankles felt secure in spite of the ankle wrap, as I said, does nothing in regard to support. The wrap slides and shifts a bit as you are running, and the material can cut off circulation at the foot at times. However, I did experience some slipping from forward to back, with my toes jamming in the toebox. If you are looking for more ankle support, just get the 140 version, then get a real ankle brace like the Adidas speed wrap. The removable insole was probably inspired by Kobe wearing orthotics these days, as I was told that he is by someone from another site. As you know, you have to take out the insole, in order to fit a custom orthotic inside a shoe. If you do not, the orthotic will be sit on top of the insole, placing the shoe a bit too high off the ground, making it tippy, taking the foot too far out of neutral, which can lead to ankle inversion/eversions, also leading to lower back and knee issues.

I think, but I am not too sure, that this may be the reason that Kobe kept spraining is ankles last year, if he was indeed wearing an orthotic in the VI.

Good luck Old fella'!

anyone else have any opinions about these? been hearing a variety of reports

I'm there with the sneaker file review.  I got a blister in the exact same spot.  I balled for about 5 pick up games so a couple hours and it started to bother me about the 4th game in.  The review was pretty much spot on to my experience but I couldnt say I was disappointed in the shoes.  They performed well for me.  Lockdown, traction and overall fit were above average for me.  Hopefully the second time around will be different as far as the blistering goes.

I agree with you l8bloomer11. It's such a beast but there's just some spots that give you discomfort.
but it performs really well. If you can get past the digging and the blisters then you have a very very
beastly shoe.

its deceptive looking at a lot of reviews since a lot of people picked up the xmas to rock and not play with
