(Spoilers) ASOIAF Books Discussion (All Books Read Edition) (Spoilers)

Has anyone read the prequel books? Such as the Dunk and egg stories?

They're so good, gives a good background story to the current major houses in the book. How many are there btw? Last one I read ended with Dunk and Egg heading North.

HBO promoting the inevitable for S6

Kraznys mo Nakloz
was also giving Dany that fire in book 3...
every chance he got he called her swine, or ****.....the Lulz in that chapter was at 100

Jaime's retelling of the kings landing sack was fire.

im at the coming of oberyn martell now...

To me the books and show are completely different now

I was going to pass on the show until the next book came out but it doesn't even matter now

To me the show is also going down hill

The Jamie and Bronn storyline was horrible

The only thing saving it is the Jon Snow/Walkers storyline

I wish they would have stayed true to the books but whatever

Geeze just finishing up book 4. I missed so much when i actually read. (Shout out to roy dottrice)
Everyone has sympathy for the starks. Brienne easily is going through the worst of it.

And that frying they do on her is hilarious and has me smh at the same time. She getting roasted literally on every page.

The Winds of Winter will not be published before Season 6

Cold, hard facts: The Winds of Winter is not finished, although a lot has been written. Says Martin: “But there’s also a lot still left to write. I am months away still… and that’s if the writing goes well”.

He reveals that he was first planning to be done by Halloween, and then by the end of the year, which would still give the publishers enough time, with an accelerated turn-around schedule (similar to when A Dance with Dragons was done). Clearly, that did not work out.

But I won’t make excuses. There are no excuses. No one else is to blame. Not my editors and publishers, not HBO, not David & Dan. It’s on me. I tried, and I am still trying. I worked on the book a couple of days ago, revising a Theon chapter and adding some new material, and I will writing on it again tomorrow. But no, I can’t tell you when it will be done, or when it will be published. Best guess, based on our previous conversations, is that Bantam (and presumably my British publisher as well) can have the hardcover out within three months of delivery, if their schedules permit. But when delivery will be, I can’t say. I am not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over. The deadlines just stress me out. I am going back to my stance from last March, before all this. It will be done when it’s done. And it will be as good as I can possibly make it.

I know what the next question will be, because hundreds of you have already asked it of me. Will the show ‘spoil’ the novels?

Maybe. Yes and no. Look, I never thought the series could possibly catch up with the books, but it has. The show moved faster than I anticipated and I moved more slowly. There were other factors too, but that was the main one. Given where we are, inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in season six of GAME OF THRONES that have not yet happened in the books. For years my readers have been ahead of the viewers. This year, for some things, the reverse will be true. How you want to handle that… hey, that’s up to you.

WELP.

As an atheist I gladly profess there is no God. But if I was a religious person this would make me lose my faith in everything.

Can't say I'm too surprised. Think it wishful thinking that we'll get Winds before Season 6 like we all hoped.

We won't be seeing TWoW until late 2016 / early 2017, if we're lucky.

Am I disappointed ? Absolutely

Ah well, looks like we'll be watching the reveal in April.

HBO will have record breaking viewers for the premiere of Season 6.

My biggest concern is exactly what happened last season..

Without having the source material to rely upon things go downhill really quick.. Not a coincidence last season was easily the weakest to date

this book wait hasn't actually been as bad as the other book waits
Days between ASoS & AFfC: ~1842
Days between AFfC & ADwD: ~2110
Days between ADwD & now: ~1645
Not so bad, especially if you consider he didn't have the show to deal with prior to Dance.

More like streaming and downloads will be up.

I got that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms book from a gift exchange. Will start it after I finally finish The Alchemist.

It's absolutely ridiculous he can't sit himself down and finish this book in a timely manner.

True but I feel episode 1 of Season 6 will have an all-time high as far as viewers go, esp. if HBO trolls the fate of Jon Snow for the next 3/4 months.

Show fell off last season without his source material. It was still great TV ..but seasons 3 and 4 were GOAT status

A Dream of Spring won't come out until 5 years after the last season with the pace dude is on :smh:

Last 2 episodes of season 5 were great, but the rest of the season was meh. Jaime in Dorne was a disaster and at the end of Season 4 everyone thought Sansa was gonna come up, but she continued taking L's.

The show is what makes us impatient. Its not really uncommon for series like this to be so far apart. Especially with a world this big. He could care less if the show is done or not im guessing

I knew last season wasn't going to be as good since they had to make up their own story lines

Besides Snow story last season was boring

I hope next season they turn it around

Jaime in dorne made sense...just terribly terribly executed. Not having arianne on the show which WAS. The main plotline was the real crime

Chapter 55 the queensguard. Biggest hint AGAINST. R+L=J
In truth the only real evidence of what happened to lyanna

i'll quote when i get home, but it was basically Barrison Selmy saying ONLY THE KING CAN DISPATCH KINGS GUARD, and then he goes on to say to his wife, lovers, or even BASTARDS.......
we all know his Kingsguard was VERY loyal to Aery's crazyness...
we also know Aery's trusted no one not even his son.

Ok I do remember something like that. That could be evidence against R+L=J but my problem with that is in Ned's dream, The KG said they don't flee "We swore a vow" Their vow as KG is to protect the King so if R+L=J weren't true then why didn't they leave to protect the king after Arey's died? And don't you think the fact that they don't consider Visery's their new liege kinda weird?
