2012 NBA MVP Thread

You all put WAY too much emphasis on the word "valuable" in MVP.

Using "if you take this player away from this team" as a critical component is completely asinine. How they would do without that player is something we just speculate on and will never know.

Who's to say Oklahoma City minus KD with Westbrook/Harden/Ibaka wouldn't be better than the Heat minus LBJ with Wade/Bosh? We just don't know.

All started with Steve Nash being given the award for no reason.  And I remember someone saying it back then, this is a baaaaaaaaad idea.

Shoulda listened to that guy back then.

word.  how was kobe the best player on planet earth for literally 4 years and get no props. and finally gets an award on the slow decline.  smh makes zero sense.  son was solely the only reason they were making the playoffs when shaq left.  he should've got the damn award named after himself solely on the strength of smush & kwame.

Stern was trying not to be a hypocrite; because Nash's second MVP year's stats were better than the first.

But he shouldn't gotten the first one IMO. Kobe been getting robbed before Vanessa..

Dwight's team sucks with Dwight though.
They're a 1/2 game better than the almighty Lakers

What other words are we suppose to take in to consideration then? "Most"? "Player"??

IMO, Thunder without KD is a better team than the Heat without LeBron. Yall are all really just focusing on the core players and either way you slice it Russ or Harden > Bosh. So when you add in Ibaka it just tips the scale in their favor. Granted how good each team would be record wise is speculation.

I'm not even saying he should win it. Cuz you're right he has not had a MVP season. I'm saying if you're gonna play that "take this player off this team and speculate how bad that team would be" game Dwight deserves the award every year.

Why do I feel the only reason Animal Thug thinks Durant is the MVP because he's going up against Lebron?
laugh.gif

I hate when people say Lebron has the 2nd best SG in the league on his team. Durant has the best scoring trio in the league. He's not just carrying that team on his own. Its like the same arguments you make against Lebron, you can for Durant. TBH, would that OKC team still be #1 in the West if you took Harden or Westbrook off that team? I don't think so. I know that Miami team would still be #2 in the East if you took Wade or Bosh off.

Harden and Westbrook are just as important for OKC as Durant. You can't say the same in Miami. Lebron could easily take that team to the Finals without Wade or Bosh on that team.

So, when it all comes down to it, you should go by the best overall player which is Lebron.

this thread should be locked for the fact that someone had the audacity to bring up Dwight Howard in the MVP discussion.

the only award Dwight Howard should/will ever be mentioned for is DPOY.

he is NOT a MVP player...ever.

No bro. I can honestly give a damn about Lebron anymore, you should know that.

I'm not going to debate this anymore for today. So much can change within the next 20-25 games that are remaining that I can't call it..

Having a better PER does not = having a better year.

Does having a higher PER, higher WS/48, more total win shares, higher offensive rating, lower defensive rating, and higher adjusted plus/minus = having a better year?

Why do you say that like it's a bad thing?  Like stat heads have no logic on the "watching the game" perspective of the game.  Or they're just number junkies who don't care for it.  Should we just ignore the stats and stick strictly to gameplay video?  Or should we just pay complete attention to team records?  I understand partially what your beef is but some of it is just a case of a lot of folks not wanting to change the way you can watch and look at the game.

Well, I was told back when Kobe was the best player in the game by a wide margin that that wasn't what MVP was about.  Winning was.  (See Steve Nash........who is now getting love for a team that won't make the playoffs, funny how that works out now)

Durant's team is 1A-1B in the NBA, Mr James team, is not.  At least currently.

So are we changing our criteria again?  I just want to be up to speed is all.

If the Heat win the next 20 and have the best record, I'll gladly change my vote from Durant to Lebron.
There's a huge difference man. Kobe was the best player while his team was seeded where in the West?

LeBron is probably the best player AND his team is up there with the best in the League. Huge difference.

Criteria has been, and always will be... Great player from one of the best teams in the League.

No because there are no decimal points on an NBA court.

WOW bro, I never expected this from you of all people.  That is an extremely narrow minded approach to the game.  I cannot take this response seriously, you have to be just !!%@##+ around.

 Another winner.

You know I'm not a stats guy Pro, but anyone that thinks Bynum is the Laker engine is nuts.  And considering it's coming from JD, I'm triple sure why the topic is even being brought up.
laugh.gif

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, he was talking about Bynum compared to Kobe. OK, my apologies

I know you're not a stat guy man but that's the way the game (all sports TBH) are going. And it's not a bad thing. Doesn't mean people aren't watching the games anymore, just finding newer ways to analyze it. I think once you embrace it, the more you'll find it useful.

Get it through your thickass skull. There's a difference. What was the best record that Kobe was when he was putting up all his great numbers? And what are the Heat and Thunder's record?

LeBron may be the better player, on the better team, with the better record in a month, why the hell are you so tight? Jesus you're worse than a virgin.
