Some shoe care stuff came in today. Adrian and I went in on a Saphir polish and reno order via Meermin. Sandro at Meermin was kind enough to waive the shipping cost so it made the polishes and reno cheaper than buying them state-side. Total $60 for 4 polishes and 2 reno's. The Renovateur usually sells for about $22 stateside plus about $12 per polish so I think we got a very good deal. Recently started using Saphir polishes and they are great compared to the ones I was previously using. This is my first time purchasing reno though.

FYI, for those looking into getting some shoe care products, specifically horse hair brushes and/or shoe cream, Men's Wearhouse is having Buy 1 Get 1 Free, so you can purchase 2 large horsehair brushes for about $7. Shoe cream's come to about $1.50/each, I have their black and tan ones and so far like the result.
 
Anyone have any tips to ordering blazers online or should I not even bother? I'm 6'3" 190 and typically do 44L when I wear a suit, but I want to wear it with chinos and get that modern/slim look, should I go shorter than my typical long?

Also any good sites with decent prices?

Way too vague. You need to be precise with the question(s). Tips on ordering blazers? Are you trying to go MTM or OTR? If the latter, you need to be familiar with the brands, ie some are more slim than others in the same size.

What does 'decent prices' mean? Are you trying to spend less than $100, or $1000?

I went by one of my local spots and found the Moore & Giles Benedict Weekend Bag. Amazing looking bag in person and it was the perfect size. The vintage look of the bag is :pimp: . OG price was $695, but I had a $100 gift card that I received for my birthday and that knocked it down. Also, I had a $25 off e-certificate. I'm really happy with the purchase.

What does everyone do to keep their shoes in good condition? I recently bought a pair of Cole Haan Air Madison's (dark brown) and was wondering what I should buy/do to keep them looking good. Appreciate it.

Quality on modern day Cole Haan isn't all that great so you can only do so much.

I clean, condition once every handful or so times of wearing.

I'm basically trying to get this type of look, OTR.

Was looking in the J. Crew price range. I would start with a "slim fit" because I'm 6'3" and slim/athletic with narrow shoulders.

However I did see this blazer at Macys for $80 and I feel like I could get a similar result

I just feel like some of my sport coats would be too long for a look like this, which is why I asked if I should start with a R vs. L.

Your best bet is to walk into a J. Crew and Macy's and try them out. I'm 5'10" and mostly wear an R. Some are S depending on the cut and fabric. At your height I would think you'll be an L.

The difference is that the quality on the Macy's you posted is crap and material is probably synthetic. That's why it's so cheap. If you just want the fit and don't care about longevity and hand on the garment then stick with the cheap stuff.
 
Thanks. Yeah I'm really not in the market to buy a $1000 blazer. It just wouldn't get enough burn right now.

Would it be worth the extra $100-200 to get something from J. Crew as opposed to Macy's?

I'm definitely being more conservative with my spending I understand that. I don't wear suits frequently enough to justify a 4 digit tag on just a coat.

I'm more about getting the right look/colors right now.

Appreciate the tips.
 
You don't need to spend $1,000 to get a decent quality jacket. There are a slew of places you can visit for quality jackets that will run you from $300 to $800 or so. A few that comes to mind: epaulet, kent wang, thick as thieves, suit supply.

J. Crew is good while on sale. I have 3 sport coats from there and all were bought on heavy discounts. Wouldn't pay retail for anything.

And if you want the bottom of the barrel cheap, look at express, Macy's, and fast fashion brands.

Going to a wedding of a friend at beach resort in Cape Cod. I was thinking khaki linen with purple (or variant of) gingham shirt with a solid tie. At this point I just don't know if I should go suit or blazer with chinos.

I have an older suit that I got altered and I made the sleeves and the pants way too short. I'm assuming this can be corrected, but how much should I be worried about bad tailor jobs?

I just bought two suits and I dont really want to mess these up.

Depending on how much it was shortened and how much it needs to be let out you would be assuming wrong. Most will cut excess material. If you only need 1/4 or 1/2 an inch you're probably ok.

Yep. Half an inch would probably be max unless the tailor left quite a bit of material underneath.

always wanted to try this stuff. some of the dudes i see on blog/youtube videos are really compulsive. they spend 3 hours shining the toes of their shoes with that stuff.. i'm a bit too lazy for that much work

instagram being down ruins my day

In addition to what Wis said, make sure to put some shoe trees in them when you're not wearing them.
