NT hoopers how do you get out of a shooting slump?

Back to basics....
95% of the time it's 1 of these 3 things:
- your timing is off, rhythm from gather to release is disjointed - work on the feeling of staying connected
- your shooting elbow is flaring out
- square shoulders through finish
Shoot confidently my dude :pimp:

This man knows :pimp:

By accepting you're not a good shooter....

Jokes just keep shooting man. Don't let it get to you mentally

I start stepping in and shooting midreange/free throw line jumpers...same form and strength needed for that all the way around. I don't have good depth perception so I use muscle memory to know how much to put on each shot.

i keep shooting. but if i'm off and its clear that its that kind of night, i'll be the facilitator and set my teammates up

yes agreed! keep shooting, gotta get through the hump...  at 24hr fitness you can just shoot all the time lol..!!

Free throws.

This will just make you think about it too much. What I've done is just stand by the hoop and with my shooting hand, just do layups one handed, until you feel tired or had enough.

Just seeing the ball go in can boost your shooting confidence.

Shooting free throws doesn't involve jumping or the necessary movements in a jumpshot, so it doesn't really help.

I get in shooting slumps if I skip playing ball for like 5 straight days. Everything just feels heavier and more "sluggish." What helps me is to just shoot the ball over and over again with the full movement and jump. It gets tiring but I usually get my shot back after 2 days.

I aint a real shooter just have some very good days. Never played organized ball, and I have horrible form. I don't go back to work for a month, so whats somethings I can do to get a good technique and consistency? I too have been in a slump, last time my jumper was poppin was almost 2 weeks ago

I've had a life time shooting slump, never had a J. I can dun on a ***** tho...Well used to be able to...lol

That is usually my case. But You'll be surprised(if you have the time) what an empty court and a ball will do to your slump. the first 15 minutes or so out there will be torture and you will be fighting not to beat yourself up....But then....IT just clicks. Plus, I don't know if it is just me but there is something calming about going out there and working on your shot alone. Makes me feel like a kid again.

If you HAVE to shoot by yourself, make it as game-like as possible.

- Warm-up... 1 handed release from just under the basket and take a step back until at the free throw line.

- Don't just stand at a certain spot and keep going back there.... move with the rebound. Start with 8-12 footers alternating between different shots. spot-up, 1-dribble, going left, going right, step-back, leaners, runners etc. 2 dribble MAX.

- Once you feel like you have a rhythm and a sweat now go back to the 3-pt line and do the same combo of moves.

I see too many dudes (and kids: I'm a coach) run straight to the 3 pt line and JACK, JACK, JACK. :smh:

Develop your game with movement and your spot-up game will naturally shine :pimp:

im gonna go against the grain here. when im in a shooting slump i usually start thinking about it way too much and it gets worse. instead, try doing all the other things. put the ball on the floor, play defense, be the hustle rebound guy. you'll get your rhythm back and the shots will start falling again.

watch Ray Allen videos. its very inspiring :smokin
Ray's form is fundamentally unsound as are lots of the shots he is able to make though. The overwhelming majority of normal people can't make 3 while drifting left (generally you should elevate and land in the same spot, at worst jump forward some if neccessary on long shots but to the right or left and you are going to shoot horrible %s), contested, but this is the image everyone loves

Take a deep breath and gather yourself. Works every time for me. Positive vibes go a long way..

I employ the Kobe method. Maaaad pump fakes and I PULL WHENEVER I "FEEL" IT which is every time cause I'm Kobe

This is a easy question to answer..
Keep shooting!!
Whenether during the game..before the game..or after the game..
Practice makes perfect..

exactly this.. and dont change your shot, because what worked for you before will work for you again. just dont force any shots especially if you're not confident in your shot.

fundamentally unsound? he's got the prettiest jumper in the game.. if you'd say reggie's form then yes.. even kobe's form isnt flawless and he even said so too.. i think the shots that ray is making is just skill, besides the majority of his shots have the same form each and every time

literally spend 15 minutes of nothing but jumpers asap, i feel if i just constantly shoot itll come back. bout to hoop in 30 min btw haha

Some of you guys are overthinking this. Just shoot til u get it back. I like the post talking about doing everything else right first. Definitely helps build my confidence and more shots do fall.

go hard in the paint. u don't need to shoot jumpers the whole game. try setting up your teammates, or off ball movements. set good screens, box out, etc.

Agreed. Your shot will work it's way back, just keep confidence and think about the other parts of your game.
