FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

Yelp is so subjective. A place that serves great food might get a 3 because the server was slow? Or didn't stop by often? Or maybe a certain dish was not up to expectations.

Too many variables in their rating system.

Minus 2 stars at a hole in the wall Asian joint because water glass wasn't filled at 100% at all times and ambiance was subpar

My one cousin has such a limited list of foods she'll eat and I feel so bad for her cause it's completely her parents' fault.

She likes what she likes man. I guess I am defending it because I am very picky too.

Just made a batch of this.

Watching food network and it still puzzles me how these experienced chefs and cooks serve undercooked meat / fish. I'm a decent cook but make sure my food is at least cooked. They try to cook big pieces of chicken or fish in 5-10 minutes. Be smart and cut them into smaller pieces. Food network is like 75-80% competition shows now, ridiculous.

I think it's cause of the time restraint they have. also if it's one of those competition shows, could be that they're in a new kitchen than what they're used to. different range and ovens could affect cooking time.

just moved to a new place and it has an electric range :x
definitely takes some getting used to compared to a gas range.

Think I made my best steak today.

looks good but kinda looks like you didn't let it rest enough, a lot of the juices are on your plate. i'll just sop it up with some bread though :smokin

@dont be a menace  Should I let it rest after I sear it too? Didn't think I should but I definitely let it rest for like 20 minutes after i had it in the oven (reverse sear). Was the juiciest steak I had though.

Yeah, it only bothers me when it affects me. Whenever they visit and were having a family meal or something my uncle will send me on a food run to go buy hot dogs or pizza to cater to my cousin. Growing up they never tried to get her to eat other things so I don't blame her for not liking much.

We're Filipino and her mom has her thinking rice and all Filipino dishes are evil yet she goes and feeds her Popeye's and McDonald's regularly. It's amazing that my cousin doesn't have any health issues.

It's the same thing with my 13yo cousin who's an only child.

She doesn't eat any vegetables at all. Literally does not eat anything if it has any veggies in it (a burger with guacamole spread, fries with basil garnish, etc.).

Bacon/cheese fries @ Melt (leesburg, va)

Your post a few months ago about Melt made me go all the way to Leesburg and try it. Might be the best burger spot in the whole DMvV no sice.

Best burger I've ever had. :pimp:

Try the counter in Reston

I refuse to cheat on Melt  If I'm in the DMV and need a burger, this is where I always go. Haven't had a burger from anywhere else (in the area) in over a year.

Melt is only five minutes down the road from me. :pimp:

I haven't been there in months though. Waiting for a good monthly special.
