I understand the slippery slope argument, I do. And I understand exceptions for satire. But when people are being ran over by vehicles, the slope is already as slippery as it is going to get. Further restrictions on hate-filled speech would be a positive change to the current state of the law in my opinion.

I think you're mergin' two different issues. The vehicular manslaughter and hate speech to me are separate. Words vs actions.
But who gets to define what hate speech is? The phrase "Black Lives Matter" is likely seen as hate speech and that it incites violence to some but does it really? Can't battle how these people feel because majority of them don't deal in fact so those won't matter.

Your points are valid. And I don't know the answer. I do know that the protest, in my opinion, were unacceptable (even without the violence). I think violence is inevitable in situations where such protest are allowed. In terms of the vehicular homicide, dude will probably be in jail for the rest of his life (or the death penalty), so the law is already where it needs to be in terms of that.

There will be larger protests, riots, and more deaths I can pretty much assure you.
These people are already subscribed to the idea that they're being unfairly persecuted as they march in the streets essentially unchecked carrying Nazi flags and automatic weapons. Watch what happens if the government tells them they can't even have protests.

For whatever reason, we've had a number of conservatives here who insisted on claiming to be an "independent" while defending each and every Trump criticism with deflection, whataboutism, ... and despite their "independent centrist views", could never seem to find anything positive to say about anything besides Trump.
Most have gotten themselves banned over time because they failed to contain racist views, otherwise we'd have a lot more conservatives
It remains to be seen if you will follow that trend, but I just find that trend very strange. As do others I'm sure. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with being conservative, so I don't see why they those individuals all tried to disingenuously portray themselves as independent centrists.
For an equivalent, imagine if

I apologize if that came off pompous, and it wasn't solely directed at you, but you're implying that rallies like this are legal. They are not, and the permit was rescinded.
'Fighting words' actually speaks directly to my point.
Would you happen to have a formal education in law or Government? 'Fighting Words' is something I definitely only recognize because it was part of my college education.
It's definitely a grey area, but that grey area does not apply here at all. Not quite sure how it supports your argument.
