Super Bowl commercial rejected by Fox because it featured border wall, according to ad agency

Tear down this wall!

Looking to keep politics separate from football, Fox Sports recently rejected a Super Bowl commercial because it included an image of a border wall, according to the ad agency.

The 84 Lumber ad, produced by the Brunner agency, reportedly cost $15 million.

“Fox rejected our original commercial because they determined that some of the imagery, including ‘the wall’ would be too controversial,” Brunner CEO Michael Brunner said in a statement. “So we went back and revised the spot to make it acceptable to them.”

The Daily News has reached out to Fox for comment.

At 90 seconds, it will reportedly be the longest commercial during the Feb. 5 game. It sounds like it might be the most searing, too.

“This isn’t one that’s going to make people laugh,” Brunner creative director Rob Schapiro told the Daily News. “It’s one that’s going to be thought-provoking and relevant to the discussions that are taking place in homes across America now. It’s not typical subject matter for the Super Bowl.”

The centerpiece of an 84 Lumber recruiting campaign, the top secret spot was shot in Mexico using a Mexican crew and a Mexican cast said to be on a journey, presumably to the United States. The ad is meant to make a statement, Schapiro said, and took “a lot of courage” for 84 Lumber to tell.

“The journey ultimately demonstrates the characteristics, the will, grit, determination to succeed that we’re looking for, the people who make up 84 Lumber who we consider to be 84 Lumber material,” Schapiro said. “It’s also a very patriotic message.”

The final powerful product is something, Shapiro said, that will cut through noisy Super Bowl gatherings, grab viewers “by the throat and say ‘Look at me and pay attention.’”

So what’s it about? The combination of jobs, Mexican workers and a deleted border wall paint a predictable picture of what the ad is going to focus on.

“84 Lumber challenged us to create a thought-provoking 90-second spot that would tell the world who 84 Lumber is and what they stand for — a company looking for people with grit, determination and heart, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what they look like,” Schapiro said.

If 84 Lumber is looking to make a splash with the ad, they’ve already done it. The political undertones and the early draft getting spiked by the network have trained attention on the spot almost two weeks before it even airs.

Because they “all believed too strongly” in the message of the ad, Brunner will put the the full, original version online during the Super Bowl.

With the wall intact

Its amazing that people cant see that the man is mentally ill. Look at the transcript from the interview, it's completely incoherent. I've never met a sane person who talks like that, no matter how ignorant they are.

I hope for when I do travel outside the country this year, I will not get dirty looks and be an assumed Trump supporter. That would suck :smh:

Only difference between the orange clown and other politicians is that he doesn't have to worry or care about a career in politics once this is all over.

Doesn't have to follow any of the "rules" that apply to normal politicians.

"He tells it like it is"

Well, he certainly kept this promise from his election campaign:

If the US is a pie and politicians are those who get to cut the pie, how are you gonna elect political donors as pie cutters and expect them to keep a slice on the side for you? They gonna eat the whole plate before you have the time to realize what's going on.

I knew there were some effects from immigration that affected employment levels but didn't know it was that bad. Damn.

After watching the lowlights, it's amazing how inarticulate and dumbed down he is

trump is using his paranoia to drive policy and it's getting scary. we saw his birther conspiracy theory and what he did with that irrational belief.

now his conspiracy about millions of illegal votes will materialize as an investigation and probably lead to more voter suppression.

his idiotic assertion that global warming is a hoax has led to a gag on scientific work on climate change and will probably lead to policies that further target scientists and eventually harm our environment.

his belief in the anti-vaccine fraud will potentially lead to outbreaks of preventable diseases.

his belief in debunked trickle-down economics will lead us to a recession.

his belief that torture works will reduce our standing in the world and cause undue suffering.

his paranoia about Mexicans streaming our borders, taking out jobs, and raping/murdering Americans is going to lead to billions being spent on a divisive wall.

his reflexive (ie oversimplistic) view of inner cities is going to lead to more violence and a regression in any sort of long-term positive change.

i could go on and on. if he held rational beliefs or actually pursued the truth, he could actually potentially help the country. but as he suffers from psychosis and a predilection for old debunked conspiracies, he is going to send us back decades and in the process destroy many lives.

Those jobs don't just magically appear in the private sector and manufacturing jobs don't just appear through a government freeze.

Not saying they do.

But thats a trend that needs to stop, think we can all agree on that.

We're one week into his presidency, lets see where this goes.
