@stanwawrinka
So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine.

@stanwawrinka
What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy.
To stop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief.

@stanwawrinka
There is no need for this kind of behaviour on or off the court and I hope the governing body of this sport does not stand...

@stanwawrinka
... for this and stands up for the integrity of this sport that we have worked so hard to build.

Kyrgios is scum. Period.

I will be rooting for servebot Isner to take out the little ****boi tomorrow, though part of me wants to see Nick get to the semis so Nole can teach him a lesson.

Whilst I don't support what Nick did, go back to late seventies and early eighties and Connors then McEnroe then both were doing this kind of thing all the time. It's just seen as more outrageous in these days of squeaky clean pros. CBS on court microphones introduced at the open around 80 picked up all sorts of stuff and Conners use to continue it in the locker room after. Aussie cricketers do it to the England cricket team all the time. It's not right but it's nothing new

Did Mac & Connors sink to that level back then?  I honestly have no idea.  I know Mac would argue with the "authorities" a lot, but not often towards his opponent, I don't think.  I know Connors liked to take a few cheap shots here and there, but NK seemed to go past that line tonight.

Just finished reading this book on the era and gives a great insight into what went on with Connors Mac Borg Nastase and Vitas.

High Strung: Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, and the Last Days of Tennis's Golden Age
Stephen Tignor

Worth read if you get a chance. Connors said some pretty bad stuff to Mac at changeovers.

Britkicks speaks nothing but the truth. Johnathan and James were scumbags of the highest order. It was the wild west back then. Reading how those two d-bags couldn't even get along for Arthur Ashe during the Davis Cup was Despicable. If we had as much coverage and media then as we do now, those two wouldn't be as beloved. There is a reason McEnroe never really seems outraged but on court bad behavior.

It's an interesting point on how social media has influenced this... imaging if we had this tech back then.

Damn.

Stan has a checkered past - but that's still over the top what Kyrgios said. Especially because it made no sense really. Stan just started sleeping with her, pretty sure Kokk did a couple years back. So what's the big deal

 @ her being 19 though and Stan 30, love it

I hope everyone in this thread has seen the HBO Production by Andy Samberg called "7 Days in Hell"

This reminded me of it

Gotta admit, crazy that Nick actually shook Wawa with that - he's usually so mentally strong but this just RATTLED him. He just dismantled Nick at Queens Club too in what 53 minutes? Hope they face off again at the US Open!

Nick and Kokk are supposed to be good buddies too... basically threw him under the bus...

I don't think Stan actually heard the comment during the match.  After Stan retired, they shook hands and everything looked normal... it was after the match when Stan Tweeted those comments.

Nah, they were talking trash the entire match. Well, it started to escalate during the 1st set tiebreaker - then carried over big time in the 2nd set. I am positive Wawarinka heard it

Forgot to rewind and try and see what he said at the net, probably that he's a ******

I saw the end of the 1st when they were sorta going at it... I think it was more about Stan stopping Nick in between 1st & 2nd serves because the ballboy was still running back to his spot?  I'm just speculating.

But judging from the video, it seemed like Nick was just saying it at a normal volume.

For me, when I stand behind the baseline and they guy across the net standing in "no-man's-land" says something... I usually can't hear them... which was why I thought Stan might not have heard it.  I play in a quiet court, while they were in a stadium filled with more people (more ambient noise despite everyone being quiet)... gotta take that into account too.

If Stan heard it, I don't know how or why he didn't say something at the time. Shoot, at the very least don't shake dude's hand after the match. If that's how it went down, Stan should've either responded in the moment or not said anything after the fact.

^ Yep, my thoughts exactly... couldn't hear what he said, but the handshake looked too normal! LOL
