The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 Oz Open Nadal Out)

Her 49th appearance at a major and she finally gets one. Nice to see stuff like that.

Did not expect that, but what a way to go out. Glad I watched her last match. With the win, her career high is (or should I say was?) #8 in the world.

Now part of me is hoping Fed doesn't win tomorrow...

If you're implying that Fed may retire w/ a USO win, I can't imagine Roger doing it. He's had no major injuries and really has found a great work/life balance. He's still playing at an extremely high level, plus, I think he's still low-key hoping for 20 grand slams.
I'd have to disagree... I could definitely see him doing that. While he does has plenty left, this year Fed did say that he doesn't think he's going to make an announcement beforehand:

But after speaking to Stefan Edberg, part of his coaching team, about the way to bow out, Federer has decided the best method may be to hold back the big announcement.

Edberg, a player Federer as a boy adored, said farewell to his playing career in 1996, and it was a long goodbye.

'I think he announced at the beginning of the year that he was going to retire at the end of the year. He thought that was a bit rough. He had a farewell at every single place he went to. He said that eventually it was just a bit too much. I don't think I am going to do that,' Federer said.

'I haven't thought about it a whole lot, to be honest. I don't want to go there with my thoughts because the more I think about it, the closer I am to retirement.

'But everyone has done it differently. Clearly I need to think about it eventually, but not for the moment.'
I'm not saying it's going to happen if he does win, but it's certainly a possibility. He's said many times that Sampras was his idol... and we know what happened after Pete won his final Slam. I'm trying to go to Indian Wells next year, so I sure as hell hope it doesn't end here.

Regardless of who wins the final today, I'm sure all the NT fam here agree that Djoko / Fed are classy dudes.

Djoko started off hella immature, but really found his groove and I've come to respect his play. Fed is the GOAT imo and it's crazy how he's still killing it at his age.

Second service game in and he's already been broken. Only the third time it has happen to Federer here. I thought Fed had the momentum going into this match (by not having dropped a set), but I think the rain delay has given Nole the advantage.

Yikes, nasty fall right there.

That was a rough fall.

Had that happen to me during a match and it went downhill from there. That stinging and dulling of my right arm (playing arm) was no bueno.

This will get Djoko even more hyped up to win. Fed needs to capitalize.
