Are Elite Socks a "fad"?

I think in a year or two the popularity will die down like other fads. Look at the damn thread in the Nike forum though. People are spending hundreds of dollars on these socks and have matching colors for every outfit. It's like they're addicted.

I've got a bunch of these in rotation... Fad or not, they're comfortable & considering I've always loved crew socks, I mess with them.

Socks are extremely comfortable, for the first few wears at least.. Wouldn't pay retail for them though. $8 is cool

How the hell do yall wear these thick *** socks. Do yall go a .5 size up or something?? They're cool and all but really are they that much better than a regular decent priced sock? I'm sorry I just don't buy all this "technology" in a sock that cost $15-20 for one pair. I must admit I do like the stretchy thing in the middle that keeps the sock from moving. I'll stick to TJ Maxx and Marshall with 6-7 pair for $8-10.

I aint eem gon lie, I copped a few pair to match my kicks. The python kobe ones, black n white, and the red n blacks. They feel real comfortable to me n 12-15 aint that bad IMO considering u got dudes paying 250-300 for sneakers

Because shoes and socks are the same thing.

The shoes = ____ comparison is dumb and will always be. If you didn't spend 160 on shoes, you would on something else.
To you spending 15 on socks is stupid but 160 on shoes is justifiable. To others spending 160 on shoes is stupid. It's all relative. Yes shoes and socks aren't the same thing but that's not the point. The point is justifiability of price is a matter of personal preference and opinion

I got some and some champion "knock offs" if you wanna call them that from Target. Can't tell a difference between the two and the champions come in a 2 pack.

I don't wear them outside of playing hoop though. I do notice a difference in playing with these and just plain pack of socks.

For one, these seem to not wear down thin as fast as a say a pack from FTL or Target....etc.

For playing ball they're better than regular think socks. I don't wear them other than that though. My calves are so big though the sock won't stay up and always rolls down on me, but it doesn't matter if people see it or not anyways as long as I'm comfortable playing in them.

I have a couple black/white pairs and one black/red pair. Just wear them to play ball, really comfy.

Me and my friends do have an ongoing joke about elites providing extra skill

Yea dude I wear Walmart crew or Nike crew socks..I'm old school lol..I don't come to the court lookin pretty..I wear either a grey or black tee, mesh shorts, and either a pair of 6's or 9's...I need some new ballin shoes

Im 31 years old.

I still rock no-show socks.

Tube socks (even the "cool" ones) look stupid to me. That's the era i grew up in, and im not the type of dude that jumps on trends. Im probably gonna be retired and driving around town listening to Tupac and DJ Qwik.

I have a lot of elite socks

I rarely show them off though because I dont wear shorts very often.

I wear elites strictly for the comfort.

When I'm in the gym/running/etc I try to wear the low cut Kobe elite socks.

I wouldn't say that they are a fad... however as of right now they are the best socks you can get for basketball.

Say word.

I have no idea what Nike Elite socks are.

From this thread I gather they are colorful and expensive.

I rock no shows and peds in the summer and Uniqlo socks every other time of year.

Same. All about the no shows--except I have sunken heels so I have mainly switched to quarters to avoid massive blistering on my achilies.

I do have a pair of these quarter versions I got at Marshall's for like $4, I like'em, but wouldn't ever rock those tube socks.

They're way better than regular socks. Whether they're worth the price of admission is another story.
