The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

So my fiancé told me today she wants to get me a ps4 for Valentines, because she got a $300 gift card to Best Buy. How the heck am I suppose to find them in stock, if their website won't let me check stores inventory?? Any help?
Your best bet if just to call around and know when they get there shipments my friend did that and it took him 3 days he was able to get one

PS4 doubled Xbox One sales in January. Honestly surprised with that. Will be the PS2 era for Sony all over again if they keep this up.
I can't find Sony PR for NPD, did they post one yet?

Not a full statement. Don't think they're releasing one. They posted this 'Q&A' after the NPD data came out and gave some quotes to the media http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/02/13/qa-ps4-by-the-numbers/

In the US, PS4 was #1 in sales for next-gen consoles in January, nearly doubling the nearest next-gen competitor. And PS4 remains the cumulative leader here based on today’s report from the NPD Group.

Since we launched on November 15th, we’ve sold every PS4 available in the US. It’s clear that PS4 is seeing strong appeal all over the world, and we’ll continue doing our best to provide additional inventory in all of the 53 countries where PS4 is available. We’ve got supply refreshing throughout the channel regularly, so I encourage everyone to check in with their local retailers regularly.

It’s clear gamers are choosing PlayStation as the best place to play with PS4 software sales ranking No. 1 in January, highlighted by strong sales of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which sold twice as many units on PS4 than any other platform.

Meanwhile Microsoft is talking about
Xbox* leading January software sales and giving out more meaningless stats like "740 million hours of fun"

Bummer. Alright. I was hoping there would be an easier way, but I'll just be patient and try.

Pretty much this. They aren't sitting on shelves long at all once they're put up. Try and find out exactly when they get deliveries than head to the store at that exact time and let an employee know you want a system.

^ Thanks for the heads up. Will probably check it out tomorrow. For those that own the console, how do you guys like it? Any game recommendations or tips?

Less than 12 hours in.

Not regretting it, only picked up 2k and Battlefield, I'm just waiting for the bigger exclusives to drop.

Games look AMAZING though

I love the PS4. I put a lot of hours in 2k14 and BF4, but haven't really touched CoD (I was a CoD fan before BF4 being my first Battlefield game). If I could I would get Tomb Raider from what I've been hearing, but I'm holding my money for MGS:GZ and/or Infamous. And if you're looking forward to either one, any title should keep you busy until then. Just make sure you get PS+ if you haven't already. The free games are always clutch, and honestly because of it, I've been playing my PS3 more than my PS4.

I hate when companies do that.

Every company is #1 or "the leading" in something nowadays.

It's usually something meaningless.

I may or may not have reported you for modding.

Nah I didn't

This thread (and the previous threads) have sparked a lot of discussion from people I know. I know rule #1 of NT but this community has a very unique viewpoint so I've passed it along and continue to mention it and pass it along to friends in the industry. I've got a family member who's an editor at IGN who pokes around on here. My friends within the industry, superiors, and community people read this thread regularly.

The reason why this thread is interesting is because people aren't on NT specifically for video game related conversations or news, so the discussions and feedback on here are taken and categorized in a totally different manner.

It's all a game within a game to help better make a game.

Without getting disgustingly specific I and others (you'll especially see this in marketing) use what we call "Personas" which is basically a fictional character that we assign traits to for a specific market subset. These personas represent the user/customer base and we use them to tailor our work since we're developing with a player centered approach.

When doing the data mining for these personas we've found it very helpful to assign quotes from posts or interviews to various personas. So we might take a quote from Bad Religion Bad Religion and attribute it to "Jacque" our White, Male, Canadian, Hockey loving, RPG centric gamer. These persona's are treated as a living entity that evolve with player feedback and market change.

When I talk about NT being a different and good place to get discussions and opinions from it's because as I said people aren't here for video game news directly. You might prefer to discuss your gaming and news here but NT is a site about sneakers and that's what originally brought you here. So the community here can give you a bigger picture of your player base than somewhere like Kotaku or a publisher/game specific message board where you can only assume that people are basement dwelling weaboos and take their opinions as such. While I feel NT in general is overly generalized in categorization at the top level (For example, years ago I actually heard during a meeting "We need to get this Niketalk market share do what you need to do to get these ads running to the urban population") I think that there is a wealth of great, diverse, and viable opinions that come out of this community.

Here you can drill down deep and get into a whole bunch of cross post referencing to see what the player-base is involved in. That's all for the community and information research people to do. Take D Double D Double who is a categorized (I'm not saying this is 100% fact) as a Sony loyalist, who is in the European market (British?), is a minority, technology versed, interested in fitness (running), interested in F1 racing, an avid soccer fan, and doesn't give a **** about Zelda.

Having that kind of data to add into your persona's or to get very specific when talking to investors is a great thing to have.

That was a really good read. I didn't know it was like that but the NT gaming community is great so I'm not surprised.
You got me down to a T as well  :wow:

For the people at Sony, Type0 + Vita is all I ask for, oh and a AAA JRPG but I think that's coming.

I gotta throw this out there.

Watched/read a few reviews for Lightning Returns, and the story is what most people's hang up is.

The thing is, I'm 20 hours in and its extremely easy to follow... I dont understand what the issue is. Its not the most compelling bit of fiction, but it makes sense. And they have done something I never thought possible....

They made Lightning likeable. Through her interactions she has been waaaayyy less stiff and distant. I've yet to skip a cutscene, when Id have done half already for the first 2 games. The irony is ***Minor Spoiler*** she supposedly has lost her feeling for people ****END Spoiler****

This game isnt perfect, but I feel alot of reviewers are just going through the motions, seeing the disdain alot of casual FF fans have had for the XIII series, and judge it on that.

Anyway, Ill put more down on here when I beat the game.
