2013 Chicago Cubs Season Thread

Gonna be a long year for us, but we should be able to watch a lot of our young talent grow. If we can move Marmol and Soriano this year, add a couple young pieces, next year and beyond we should be clear to start bringing in talent to add to our young core. Main priority is we need to develop that young core, HAS to happen.

That swing from Rizzo was so effortless, and still, the ball went deep into the rt center bleachers.

F****** Marmol did his best to screw me out of a bet and a win for my fantasy pitcher. :smh:

I have 3 Cubs on my fantasy team - Starlin, Rizzo and Samardjzia.

Sammy was a beast today hope he has a massive year - Rizzo went yard, and Castro could be the best SS in the league if it all comes together and him power improves.

How about Marmol, what garbage - losing his job on the first day - dont let that bum pitch anymore

Marmol in mid-season form. If he doesnt go 1-2-3 next time out, Marmol goes to middle relief.

Good way to start a season, 2 of 3 on the road. Hope it lasts.

Marmol needs to get dealt. He's the new Mitch Williams.

nobody's gonna take Marmol unless he reels off like 25 straight saves. he had a nice 20 for 22 saves run last season and nobody bit.....nice win today though. exciting lol

This damn team. :smh:

Up 5-1 into the 8th, total control. Bases loaded, nobody out, top of the lineup coming up, get nothing.

Now the pen blows a 4 run lead. :smh:

Come on man.

Matt Garza, Soriano, and Marmol all traded. :pimp:

Theo is doing WORK out there.

Our farm system was once barren as hell, now, take a glance.

Starlin and Rizzo obviously are at the big league level.
Now, Junior Lake has emerged on the scene

Javier Baez 20, INF
Alberto Almora 19, CF
Jorge Soler 21, OF
Kris Bryant 21, 3B
Arismendy Alcantara 21, INF
Mike Olt 24, INF
Pierce Johnson 22, RHP
Arodys Vizcaino 22, RHP
C.J. Edwards 21, RHP
Jacob Hannemann 22, OF

We also just signed a bunch of top shelf international kids to develop including 4 of the top 30 players.

Eloy Jimenez 16, OF #1
Gleyber Torres 16, SS #3
Erling Moreno 16, RHP #17
Jen-Ho Tseng 18, RHP #29

As well as a couple other young kids.

Theo has added all the prospects he could get, signed a ton of international guys, got rid of all the top end salary guys and has us looking much stronger for 2014 and beyond. There's still another 10 or so prospects that are 2nd-3rd round type picks still working their way up, and we still may be adding another in Corey Black who we got for Soriano, and possibly Neil Ramirez as the PTBNL for Garza. Both are decent prospects in that 2015-16 window.

Obviously, not all these guys will work out. But if even half of them do, we could develop a core of players that play together. Think of how Maddux and Mark Grace came up, and damn near no prospects stuck after that for quite a while. We NEVER develop our farm system, and now suddenly, we might be looking at a top 5 system. Not to mention we're lookin at another Top 5-7ish pick in next year's draft. :pimp:

It's not about ending a drought, it's about being built correctly for a change. Theo may be doin that. In the meantime, let's watch Castro, Rizzo and Lake continue to learn each day.

nice to see you guys on the right path. was a big kerry wood fan when he came up and k'd everyone. shame things didn't work with him and Prior in the rotation.

See that was a glimmer of hope, Wood, Prior, and Zambrano all in the rotation under 23, and Baker blew 2 of their arms out. :smh:

I will never forgive them for that era. That rotation would have decimated for years if not for Dusty in 2003.

I've watched baseball a scarce amount and was a Cubs fan a few years, starting from the Bartman mishap to the Dodgers sweep. After that I was like fuggit.

But if anything, I've been following baseball a bit more lately since it's the only sport on TV during summer, and I must say, the Cubs will be up and coming in the next year or two. Granted it's the same old shtick the old regimes have given but I truly believe Theo is doing a good job out there. We have a lot of great young talent in our farm system and like CP said, even if half of them develop as expected we've got a GREAT core for the future. Reminds me of when Rocky Wirtz took over for his dad.

And the fact we got Marmol for anything is masterful. Dude was awful. At the end of his tenure, it was the expectation for him to blow a game instead of save it.

Right now our future would be
C Castillo
1B Rizzo
2B Alcantara, (He already moved there to make room for Baez)
SS Castro (Could switch with Baez)
3B Bryant
RF Soler
CF Almora
LF Baez

Of course they all won’t pan out and some may be traded for pitching, but it is nice to dream.
