Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

The only non Af-s lenses that I would be worried about are the nifty fifttys (1.4, 1.

and the 10.5mm fisheye. Even so, the 35mm 1.8 af-s is better than the50 and it's only $100 more. You get better optics, better build quality, hood, pouch, etc. Also the fisheye is so wide that you barely need autofocus. It's focused on infinity 90% of the time. Just things to think about. D5k body only will retail for $729.

learning about lighting is next level stuff. really, all u need is a used flash (nikon sb26/sb28 for $60-$100 on ebay), optical slave ($15) or adapter w/ cord($20), and you're off and running.

add a cheap stand/tripod ($20), umbrella ($15), umbrella adaptor ($15), and a few gels ($5), and you're doing stuff like this

what's the 101 102. are those links? hahah

but i already have an SB-800 and that's all i plan to use for now. my D50 doesnt have comandeer mode so i'm probably just gonna get a cord. idk. haha

yes they are links but they aren't working .. just try to hit up strobist blog .. and look for 101 and 102 .. very basics for setting up and firing awaywith inexpensive triggers and flash units .. the way to go unless you want to spend some serious money .....

you can do just about anything with two flashes (Vivitar) and Triggers/Receivers like Cactus etc ..

the sb800 has a mode called SU-4 that acts as an optical slave (fires whenever it sees another flash). set your pop up flash to manual (you gotta go throughthe menu), and to the lowest setting possible (i think it's 1/32 power). then make sure that little round window on the side of the sb800 is facing thegeneral direction of your camera. it's all manual mode from there, but it's not as bad as it seems.

here's the details: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/08/unlock-superslave-in-your-nikon-sb-800.html
