Anyone got some tips on shooting people...so far I've been doing most landscape shooting and a couple self portraits but it seems like shooting people is awhole different ball game than just shooting some mountains or something.

I'm sure other people can offer much more/ better info but you want good lighting.. that's key for portraits

btw... Did anyone else get the B&H catalog? I can't put it down.. I can see why alot of people go over to Canon instead of Nikon.. alot... and i meanALOT of prime lenses compared to Nikon. Until you see the list side by side you don't realize it.. if I ever were to go for more professional gear (FF) andinvest alot more I'd consider switching over to the dark side..

With Nikon the only term you really gotta know is VR = Vibration reduction

Can a Canon head list what all the canon terms are 'cuz i seen IS and L and USM and EF and EFS...

IS is Canon's equivalent to VR.

L (unofficially considered to stand for Luxury) is Canon's line professional grade lenses. Most telephotos are painted white. They are highlighted by abeautiful red ring and most are weather sealed

USM stands for Ultra Sonic Motor, which allows for fast and silent focusing of lenses. Most of them are full-time manual capable...in other words, you canmanually focus even when set on AF.

EF-S are lenses with mounts dedicated to APS-C or cropped sensors. The back element is position closer mirror so they are not compatible with full-frame orAPS-H sensors. EF lenses on the other hand are compatible for almost all modern Canon cameras.

L = No Exact Nikon Equivalent
IS = VR
EF-S = DX Lenses
EF = AF Lens More or Less

Great stuff everyone. So after about 6 months of being undecided on which fisheye or wide angle lens to get, I am pretty sure I am going to go with the canon15mm f2.8 fisheye. I was very close to buying the 17-40L, but I already have a couple L lenses and saw a few down sides to the lens (for my purposes). Doesanyone have any good knowledge on the 15mm fisheye or big pros and cons? I will be using it on an xti, so there won't be a lot of distortion, but stillsome. Thanks for the help. I also considered the tokina 10-17 fisheye, but I felt there was too much distortion for what I want the lens for.

You seem to be confused. Even on a cropped body like an XTi, the Canon 15mm f/2.8 FE will still produce pronounced barrel distortion. If you wantto avoid distortion, you should avoid fisheyes altogether. If you decide to go for the extreme distortion on an XTi however, I recommend the Sigma 10mm f/2.8FE. It is far better suited with a cropped body rather than the Canon 15mm.

A quick search on Flickr shows how much distortion the 15mm produces even on a 40D:

i use the canon fisheye 15mm for every shot i take , the CANOn T1I is my camera . even the videos i have been posting on the siteare shot with the t1i and the 15mm fisheye
