Palace of Fine Arts

While shooting this, I realized I need a better tripod. I've been using a cheap tripod for a while now but I just need a better one.

Can anyone recommend me a good tripod? I don't really know what to look for or any of the good brands/companies. I shoot with a Nikon D90 btw( just in case the kind of camera is important in selecting a tripod)

This one was mine. I swear...you can shoot that place no wrong. I just set my camera on the ground for mine....get more of the water. I don't know why butI really like the structure of the building...feels like I am in Paris.

I'm guessing from your avy and your sig your from Cali? I know in NYC you can basically get into ANY sporting event, or really get intoanything as long as you have a press pass, which is given out by the NYPD. If you could attain a Press Pass you should be good and you won't even need'connections' then. This is how it works here: NYC PRESS CREDENTIALS

i think i bought my D60 from the same seller you are looking at. i think i would go with the $409 option. although, i did end up buying that mock "fisheye" lens. the photos come out well if you use it with an optional flash. also, a subscription to pc photo is nice, but its not that expensive to get anyway.

i am not sure what the difference is between the transcend and the dane memory cards are. i can tell you that the memory card wallet and reader are really nothing. so dont consider those a plus in this package. the cloth is cool, but you can get that anywhere. the case is cool if you dont have a case. i used it for a couple of months before i bought a more compact one.

when it comes to AF make sure that all your lenses are "AF-S" it helps a lot when it comes to speed. i had a hard time with a lens i had to manual focus each time. i have the 35mm dx. i would suggest going with that, even tho it is hard to find. the 50mm 1.4g AF-S is too pricey. remember since we are shooting in DX format, our cropped sensors magnify any focal length. so a 35mm is really shooting around 50mm, and a 50mm is shooting at 75mm.

Thanks, do you think you can send me pics you took using the "fisheye" and the 35mm? I'm leaning towards the $409 option now andwill probably spend the money towards another lens

these two are examples with the my sb400 flash. the pics in natural light are not that great at all, i will probably never use this fisheye unlessi have a speed bounce. the one i bought was $35 and i attach to the 18-55mm and it gives the most distortion at around 27-33mm

The "fisheye" lens is not really a lens, and it won't be clear, for instance. It's just 60 bucks worth of nonsense. Spent that extra money on a telephoto lens or a 50mm f/1.8.

No, it doesn't You'll get used to focusing really quick and almost be able to get down the muscle memory. It's cool that you don't have topress down halfway to meter/focus and then shoot. I got mine for 48 bucks. The D40, D40X, and D60 are the only Nikon cameras as far as I know that won't AFon that lens. That being said, you're not limited to the AF ones on eBay. Mine is an Nikon AiS mount, I believe and no one else is willing to spend morethan about 100 bucks on them. The D40 is a 1.5x crop so the 35mm is 52mm and the 50mm is 75mm. The 35mm and the 50mm open up just as wide, so the onlydifference is the lack of AF/metering and not being as wide as far as the 50mm f/1.8 v. 35mm f/1.8G is concerned. The 50mm f/1.4 is just stupid expensive forthe most part. Most sellers want about $350 for them. The 50mm is a lens you're going to have to get at some point in your life-- It might as well be a kitlens because it's definitely a staple.
