I was looking at the Canon Powershot G9, and i liked it alot. I know its no DSLR, but the features are pretty good. The main reason i don't want to makethe DSLR jump, its cause i kind off like taking pictures with live preview instead viewfinder, and also this G9 records some decent quality video. Im not positive yet though, i didn't get to try the D40. none of the DSLRs were powered on to try out.

Recently picked up a D40 package......still trying to learn how to use it.

Anyone have a Canon Powershot S5 IS? I bought myself one for Christmas, but i told my self i wouldn't open it till the 25th. lol. I was aiming for a D40,but with Canadian taxes, it would have totaled to around $760 without a memory card, so I couldnt. cant wait to use it.

ahah..thanks, im shooting with Nikon D40X and i forgot to bring a mini tripod so i had to put it on the ledge on top of the Empire State Building..

I'd say maybe Jeff Wall I'm not quite seeing Gursky. I don't think you can really emulate Gursky without a large format camera its just so much ofwhat make him him. But either way nice.

Going to do alittle group critique since it seems there are quite few requests and few any people taking those requests.

1 thru 4 I'm abit lost toward what the idea is and they all have various issue of out of focus, exposure, white balance, and generally there isn't awhole lot going on. 5 is alright, you have to watch your frame, you cut off the top of the tree and oldly cropped that building on the right but other wiseit's an alright photograph.

Btw, LA Fitted Hat 310 nice, it's good to see more people that shoot film in this post. Some of those feel like their probably alittleunderexposed and thin negatives but still nice nonetheless.

RELEVANT SX
1 is ehh. It's underexposed slightly on the right. It's very difficult to take intersting pictures of just sky so take this with a grain of salt. Butyou gotta give us something, a more formal composition? something. It's just picture of the sky, there isn't a whole lot to it. 2 is underexposed, evenif you're just trying to get the lights nothing else its underexposed.

1 is kinda is what it is. I'm not a fan of that sort of head on flash style. that sort of the hipster holga crowd has kinda had gotten behind. All you needis the vignette. But as that, it is what it is what is... no real issues. 2 is nice... Maybe little less water more sky. especially with that wake at thebottom, but the porportion is don't crop. Alot you guys kill it with the croping, most of the more well known porportions are like that for a reason.They're good porportions, don't crop... 3 is nice too. wish there wasn't that black at the bottom like that and i like 2 alot more but nothingreally wrong with it other than that block of the building thats sticking out and dark. 4 snow is hard to shoot with, its an exposure nightmare of sorts withhow it reflects. so maybe alittle on the dark end, shoot for the shadows... lots of lost shadow detail, probably because of the snow. otherwise the buildingbeing cropped funny is ehh, at the top but its not bad photo by any means.

As a cohesive work I would say nice... I like seeing photos that actually tie together than just random snap shots. But quite a few are a hair underexposed. Ithink the tonal range works nicely but you should pick up all that shadow detail. Compositionally I like 2 and 4. Composition problems I would say 5 give hishead more room to show proportion and dont cut off his feet. Also cutting off the hands in the last two kills those for me. Either get the bust shot and gethis arms or get the tight close up and completely avoid them, dont ride the fence. 3 would be better if it was more head on and straight across. That sidingscreens formal constructed composition like 2 where it runs perfectly horizontal. But otherwise I would say your work is definately improving...

where you shopping? they're like $559 at Blacks, + 15% is just under $650.
