Yeah, i think macro or even the super-macro mode on the S5 IS should make the background blurry, or maybe mess with your aperture settings. I cant wait to use S5... sitting under the tree right now.

If you want to see the types of pics people take with the S5 IS check here. http://flickr.com/groups/canonpowershots5is/pool/

Thats 3 different categories, You have to see what you want. Theres thin point & Shoot cams that you can throw in your pocket whenever like the Canon SDLine, More advanced point & Shoot cams like the Canon G9, Super-Zooms like a Canon S5 IS, which is also good at macro shots (at 0 cm) without the need fora Macro lens like on a DSLR, and theres DSLRs, which will probably give you the best image quality due to the larger sensors and more advanced lenses. If moneydon't matter, and it doesn't bother you to carry around a big camera, then id say go for the DSLR (Nikon D40, D40x, Canon Rebel XT, XTi and much more)I saw on endgadget that Canon was set to announce a new camera to their line, so maybe you want to wait it out. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/rumor/ca...bel-xti-or-eos-5d-successor-jan-24-334732.php
Im planning on getting my D40 tomorrow

Word? What didn't you like about the D40, they say its one of the easiest to use cause it has all these user-friendly options and help menus. I readsome articles online and it looks like Nikon owners don't like Canon's or vice versa. oh uh, PS3 vs. 360 all over again? haha.

Yeah I mean I've had my camera since Feb so it may be easier because I'm used to it. But I suggest hitting upyour local camera spot and trying both, most places let you get a feel for them, even if you hit up Best Buy and play with them I highly recommend it I justhad a preference for the Canon since day one.

The shot was taken with the camera sitting on the curb. Wish it was a little higher off the ground but i didn't have the tripod with me.

Quick question for those of you who get paid to photograph events: Do you watermark your images, even though they paid you?

I definitely liked the Canon more when I went and felt 'em out at the Ritz Camera on Chestnut, I'm not sure yet b/c the Canon is $200 more than theNikon, but whatever. anyway, nice pics everyone

I read lots of reviews before I bought a D40 and they were basically 50/50. I went with the Nikon because I like their stuff - I use their spectacle lenses allthe time and they're great.

I have a Canon rebel xt and love it. Both my my boys have nikons 1 a d80 the other a d40.There always hatin on canons lol. I like the look and feel of canonsand the menu is pretty straight foward. Im looking to upgrade to a 40d or 30d in late 2008.

^ Anyone who hates on either Canon or Nikon are idiots. Yes, equipment is important, but the person behind the camera is the ultimate factor in taking greatphotographs. I've used Canon's all my life, but had no qualms about considering Nikon's when purchasing my first DSLR. I ultimately chose Canonbecause of my experience with it in film and didn't feel like upgrading all my lenses. But I ended up upgrading them all anyway.

What I would recommend is getting a flash if you dont have one, back up batteries for the flash and try to get to the wedding early so you can see the set upand where you will take photos from. You may need a longer lens if your far from the ceremony or off to the side. Shoot a lot of images and have some extra cfcards and extra batteries for your camera. I have phootographed a few weddings. I dont think I am the best and Im not really a fan of wedding photographyits long and kind of boring to me. What I also would suggest is search online for wedding photographers look at their portfolios and see what type of shotsthey do. One photographer in Atlanta I find his work very good and he has a blog with tips http://rossoscarknight.blogspot.com/

Hope that helps
