Finally got my DSLR back and can start practicing again. Took this pic yesterday and realized I don't know how to set up action/skate shots with the kitlens. This is probably as clear of a pic that I got yesterday. This thing is way too dark.....but just wanted to share anyways.

thanks fongstarr .. i have yet to do some skate shots...the local skate park have some kids that can do wicked things.
sinnerp and sinser13 thanks...i have some boltons...but basically everything converted to dc5r (with exception of steering wheel, RHD, and seats -- those arenext on the list...) also some bars here and there. lol

^An interesting photograph to say the least...

If you'd squared it up against the parquet/bed a little better and maybe given the floor on toward the bottom of the photograph a little more room I thinkI'd like it quite a bit more. The tonal range is very reminisce of uncolor-corrected film under incandescent light. But definitely one of your betterphotographs, compositionally alone completely aside from the interesting conceptual idea.

Ebay- heres my view on wy I didn't want to add colours, my object was to put emphasis on how lightpoles stand tall and "alone". And sincethey're grey and black mostly, the cables are the same. And there where no special light effects I wanted to add(sunset or somethin alike). And the blue ofthe sky wasnt necessary if you ask me cause people can still guess what that is. Thats my point of view, but I really appreciate your critiqs, so thanks andI'll take a pic with higher contrast.

qksLvrTypeS- Nice pics. i like the one resembling old school and new school in Js. A question, how'd you achieve the impression of the 4th, 6th and 7thpic? When taking it of the side of the car. Did you turn the camera with the car, since tthat's pretty clear then again the background is blurred.

saNTi - So is that white box in which you put items, to get that cool all white background?

ebay no c&c on my pics? since youre the pro in here thought you'd give advice or somethin.

nocomment6 - used a ghetto rig mounted on the car and a long shutter speed.

So just as a general question to all.......what kind of cameras are people using? Maybe you guys don't have to answer all at once....but maybe the nexttime you post a pic, just say something like "taken with Canon XTi using such and such lens". Thanks!

heres my gear

canon rebel xt
kit lens 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EFS USM II
thrifty fifty 50mm f/1.8 II
quantaray 70-300 f/4.5
canon 430ex speedlite II
canon rs60-e3 wired remote

same here,
qksLvrtypeS, I just picked up mine, I got a question how come sometimes it lets you adjust the shutter for example f/2 so real big, but sometimes it only letsme open it up till like f/5,6. This is "M" mode, any tips?

I Use a Nikon D40, 18-55mm Kit lens for now, 50mm f/1.8 this weekend. people should post their cam after the pics as well as the settings they used such as ISOand exposure, etc.

Example, (I just copied it from flickr, where it says more properties and lists what cam you take the pic with.

This thread has really peaked my interest in photography again. I use to the guy in high school who was neverwithout a camera but at some point life took over and my photography hobby fell by the wayside. I think ima go an pick up a cam to see if i can rekindle thatspirit.

They're a little over processed for my tastes but otherwise they seem fine to me, just not really my speed. Nothing that really strikes me but nothingparticularly bad either.

I think most of you know my camera equipment and I don't really post that many photographes but anyhow.

Hasselblad 503cxi

50mm CF

Thanks,
Yeah, I made a quick light box last week. small, but I just wanted to test it out. for the sides I just used regular printer paper instead of the tracing paper recommended by others, I used some table laps I had laying around, no floodlights which were also recommended.

I taped some aluminum foil at the top of the box to reflect / bounce? some light to the object.
thanks santi, nice work there!

and typeS, i really like those exposure shots on the side of the car. i would like to try it but dont want to risk having the camera fall as i am driving.

SD700is, highly dissapointed after upgrading from the SD500 and noticing the "softness" of the new photos. Scratching lotto tixs for a Xsi.

The XSi looks dope, but too damn expensive. I want live-view also, for those difficult Tripod shots.

Two new shots.

Lights out

C&C Please?

I am having some problems. These pictures were taken inside a photo tent with flood lights. When I select Auto for the white balance, I get a red tint. When Iselect Tungsten, I get a blue tent. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I need pure white.

What color are the lights?

If they are really bright white you could try the flash setting.

Or see if there is a setting where you can actually set the white balance properly - either by the camera taking a reading itself or by you shooting a neutralgray card and that then sets it.

First I would go through all the different presets though - tungsten definitely won't work if they're white lights as tungsten is very yellow - so thetungsten setting compensates by making things blue - and in your case it is too blue.

What camera are you using?

Auto setting aren't always your friend sometimes you just have to manually adjust things in photoshop. Also it feels like you have mixed lighting which ishuge pain in the $!#, especially if you want a good white balance also it doesn't help that the light isn't actually that even and it'sunderexposed.

I brought them into bridge and played with it for about 30 seconds a pop so definitely with alittle time you could correct them completely but more wellexposed and evenly lit photographs will help. Essentially what amounts to studio lighting isn't the easiest thing especially with some of more do ityourself set ups.
