Bump question for the both of us. And i didnt know you could also record movies with a DSLR? I thought you could only take pictures. Which modelscan and cannot record videos?

i've got a sudden urge to get a dslr and get back into taking pictures. I took a photo class and got an slr right before dslr's startedbecoming popular.

I'm leaning towards the XTI mainly b/c it has more bang for the buck, and I already have a lense from my old rebel as well as a flash and filters.

your choice in brand primarily comes down to the glass you plan on buying. the lenses from one brand are NOT interchangeable with other brands, so choosewhichever brand you think has the lenses you prefer. personally... i loved my Rebel and already have some of the equipment, so i'll just continue get aRebel body in dslr form and keep my current glass other equipment.

Damn Santi.....lately I've been getting persuaded to get a Nikon as my next camera...and I never thought I'd go back to that crappy brand. That videowas super clean quality. I am assuming you had to manually focus it the whole time right? I thought that would actually be a dumb thing but for short videos,you can actually do some really interesting stuff.

A shot from last night. I'll get on the theme photo next but people at my work are going to get kind of weirded out so I am sure I will get somethingpretty stupid.

Right now, only the Nikon D90 and the Canon EOS 5D MkII can shoot video. Video is probably going to become a standard feature in all DSLRs soon.

^Fong, Yeah, I was manually focusing but the kit lens that came with the camera is actually pretty decent and has a large comfortable focus ring, and the lensalso has Vibration reduction so shooting videos is easy. Only bad thing is the rolling shutter when you start shooting at longer focal lengths. Its a Jelloeffect which is annoying as hell. Im satisfied with it though, seeing as i bought the camera for Photography.

If you want to switch to Nikon just for video, id suggest maybe looking in to the 5D MKII although its pricey, or wait it out till around March when the newrebels should be launched. I'm pretty sure theyll come with video also to compete with Nikon. That way you can keep your current lenses, Flash, etc. Iwouldnt call Nikon crappy... If anything one thing they have over Canon is build quality and ergonomics.

On the D90, no. I heard the 5D MkII will have a contrast based AF, but Canon recommends not using it because it will overheat the sensor.

Looks like it has the same Rolling shutter problem as the D90. Makes sense though since they both use CMOS censors.
