DARCHINYAN REACTS TO CATUBAY BOAST

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Hard-hitting and cocky former IBF/IBO flyweight champion Vic Darchnyan has reacted to the statements made by former Philippine champion Federico Catubay who battles the tough Aussie for the vacant IBO super flyweight title at the Auburn RSL Club in Sydney on October 20.

The Australian sports website sportsnut.com quoted Darchinyan as saying Catubay must be joking if he thinks he can repeat the upset win of The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire who scored a stunning fifth round stoppage to win Darchinyans IBF and IBO flyweight titles last July 7.

Catubay who is training at the ALA Gym had said that maybe this time Darchinyan will retire to which the former world champion promised there will be no upsets. I will be a world champion again.

Darchinyans trainer Billy Hussein was quoted by sportsnut.com as saying my brother Hussy (Hussein Hussein) scored a big win over him (Catubay) in Sydney a couple of years ago but hes a handy fighter. Upsets can happen as Vic found out against Donaire. But Im certain Vic will beat Catubay and be a world champion again.

Darchinyans trainer said the fighter is very focused after his loss and knows he can't make any mistakes even as he predicted that Darchinyan will stop Donaire in a rematch.

I think Cotto gonna Body Shane. No pun intended.
But Im a tad bit biased. Shane kinda old and he aint fought a relentless attacker like this.

And surprise I actually wanna see the Trinidad/Roy fight. I dont care if I have to spend for a PPV. Im interested.

Zab said he broke his left hand in the fight tonite. said he wants winner of Mosely/Cotto. They mentioned a possible match up with Cintron too :smokin

No question he has the best uppercut in the game today. :smokin

^I think there was a ShoBox event on Friday..I forgot to check for it.

And yea, it's been terrible over the last few weeks. I've just been watching some older fights from some of the fighters involved with the upcoming PPV showings...

jameel mcline? LOL i thought he died

he's sort've big and all, but NO where near klitchko's level.

Yeah, i caught the shobox from like 2 weeks ago with James Kirkland and Fulgencio Zuniga winning. That card was bomb, especially since Zuniga destroyed that overhyped piece of trash Oganov. But man, all these big fights going to the crapper are killing me. I was excited for Vargas-Mayorga. Marquez at least would have been entertanining in destroying Juarez. And i was interested in seeing Vitali Klitschko come back after his retirement. As long as Chad Dawson vs. Adrian Diaconu ends up happening, i'll be cool. That should be a pretty good fight, but i like Dawson by comfortable decision.

no no, I actually mean a few days ago
ed. He got a gift decision against Colombian Sam Miller who is as crude technically as you can possibly be. I knew there was no way he was gonna beat a guy like Jaidon who has power and a solid technical foundation, but i didn't expect Jaidon to end it THAT quickly. That part was impressive.

Also, anyone else think watching a contender fight live would be a great experience? The short fights allow the fighters to go at a faster pace, these guys are fighting for a million bucks so they almost always show a ton of heart, and the fans always seem like they're dumb pumped. Now a lot of that could be just the editing, but it still seems like it would be a good time. And from the extended clips, it looked like Codrington-Vera was a fun round and a half. Those dudes looked like they threw a ton of shots.

^I think some of that is true but I definitely think some of the excitement in enhanced through editing and the contender staff encouraging noise from the audience. Hell, the audience could even consist of actors. I went a WWF event a long time (I'm ashamed to admit) and what they do is tell everyone the camera is going around the arena so get on your feet, make some noise, and hold up your signs because you might get a chance to be on TV! So when your watching from home it appears everyone is absolutely pumped about the event. So I'd suspect some of this same type of stuff goes on. I mean you know there has to have been some bad fights over the 3 seasons and their all put together to look like a Rocky movie.

The fight last night did appear to have some good action since they did probably show 90% of that first round but of course they added sound effects, slow motion, etc.

last night was better than anything i had seen before on contender. more boxing, less drama outside of the ring. i hate the angles though. ugly broads on myspace have nothing on these guys. we gotta see the over the back shoulder shot or the low angle shot all the time. its like middle school film production class all over again. then they add on the slow motion to further complicate the sequence. the don looked nice though. paul wall might need a new grill after that.

Golden boy better keep them rankings legit and have No funny business going on or im lose all respect for DLH

PRESS RELEASE: Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC, is extremely pleased to announce the acquisition of the following titles from Kappa Publishing Group, Inc.: The Ring magazine, KO, World Boxing and Pro Wrestling Illustrated, which are the leading periodicals in the boxing and wrestling industry. Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC, is an autonomous member of Golden Boy Enterprises family of companies.

The Ring was founded in 1922 and is known in the industry as The Bible of Boxing. It pioneered the concept of boxing rankings and has been awarding the prestigious Ring championship belt to genuine world champions since then-heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey was the first recipient. Pro Wrestling Illustrated was launched in 1979 by Stanley Weston and is acknowledged as the number one independently published pro wrestling magazine in the world.

We have a very skilled and capable team at The Ring, headed by Publisher Stu Saks and Editor-in-Chief Nigel Collins, and I have all the confidence that these magazines will not only continue to prosper, but in fact grow globally, said Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Enterprises. These magazines will be held in an editorial trust where they will be operating totally independent of any influence from me or others from the Golden Boy Companies as it relates to editorial direction or content.

This is the kind of asset you never really own, but rather safeguard for the next generation, said Golden Boy Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer. We are proud and honored to be part of this next generation and are mindful of the responsibility trusted upon us.

The Ring and Pro Wrestling Illustrated brands are, in our opinion, two of the strongest and most recognized brands in their respective fields, said Schaefer. We are looking forward to being part of the next chapter of these great titles and are very respectful of the deep history of each.

Oscar and I would like to thank Nick Karabots and Despina McNulty of Kappa Publishing for giving us this opportunity as well as all fight fans for all they have done for these great magazines during their ownership, said Schaefer.

De La Hoya continued, As a young kid growing up I was always waiting
with anticipation to get the new issue of The Ring. To be here now and
actually own the title is truly a dream come true. We encourage fight
fans, fighters, and promoters to rally together and continue in the
impressive resurgence our beloved sport of boxing has experienced this
year.

Sources close to the situation have informed BoxingScene.com that the proposed doubleheader featuring IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron defending in the main event against either Joshua Clottey or Antonio Margarito, slated for Dec. 1, will not be televised by Showtime.

IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi was slated to defend in the co-feature against his mandatory, Herman Ngoudjo.
Apparently, the new Showtime doubleheader for Dec. 1, will now feature Antonio Tarver in the main event (against rumored opponent Danny Green). The co-feature will have WBC junior middleweight champ Vernon Forrest defending the title against his mandatory, Michele Piccirillo.

According to Main Events, Cintron is still going to fight this year, possibly on the November 23 undercard to the rescheduled Fernando Vargas-Ricardo Mayorga pay-per-view, against original opponent Jesse Feliciano. There is no word on when Malignaggi will return.
