I see people are back on their Pyramid scheme grind. Vol. 5Linx

Would Mary Kay fall under these schemes?

Basically but since there is a retail side to it isnt as bad. The sad thing about these people is they will push garbage products like DreamTrips but wont take a sales job where they could actually advance career wise. If you can sell junk im sure you can sell something good.

I had a neighbor move in earlier this year across the street who came over and introduced himself to me and my girl. Older fellow and his wife in a 5 bedroom house...kinda fishy

Time goes on and I notice he just starts being extra friendly and inviting us over for Easter dinner. Then one day he just comes out with it and asks...

"Do you Like to Travel?"  The look on my face :

I said yea just to humor the guy and then he invites me to a meeting. I say "no" and since that day he hasn't said a word to us.

Could be retirement and dude works a day job yet he is beyond retirement age. Rent is like $2100 I think...we checked it when it was still on the market. I think this is another case of living beyond your means to be honest.

The things I don't get, why are people so oblivious to the concept of supply and demand?

You buy all this product, for example Herbalife, who in the F you think you're gonna sell it to? Talking about "I'm an independent business owner" no, you're an independent idiot. You bought a huge amount of supply without even bothering to see if there's a real demand.

Met a guy a couple weeks ago.

This dude offered me a "great opportunity." He told me about his "mentor" who earns "$60,000 in a bad month."

I was just going along. Listening.

He asked me some questions about my current career plans and then jotted some notes in a small notebook. There were a couple dozen other names in the notebook.

About a week later he sent me an email saying that through the company (5Linx) I would be able to expand my career. He said that I would make much more money than the current career I have planned (I'm a graduate student).

I thought the whole thing was funny since he lives in crummy, rented house. I was close to asking him why he promises me such a bright future, when he's the one that's in need.

ahh that's clever! I've never actually thought about doing that. I will from now on.

Anybody familiar with "TLS Weight loss solutions"?

A friend of mine just informed me that she got invited to a meet and greet this friday to learn about the "program/company". She was recruited by a friend who told her that she'd be a natural fit. I honestly didn't think much of it until she (my friend) told me that there was a $400 initial investment to gain access to the TLS sales portal or some ishh like that (after the meet and greet); of course, at this point, the red flags and sirens went off in my head.

I decided to do a lil research and it turns out that TLS is program under the Market America company umbrella.

Market America is an "internet marketing" company. I looked up their wiki page and the company is characterized and criticized as a multilevel marketing company--in the same vein as all the other companies that have been posted in this thread. I feel like I've seen all the evidence that I need to see, but at the same time I don't want to jump the gun with the accusations.

So, should I tell ol' girl she is about to get played or am i overreacting?

If you make the majority of your $$$ from recruiting people then yes, it's a pyramid scam. If you make the majority of your $$$ from selling their product then it's a MLM. Whether you still think thats a scam is up to you. But technically it's still legal. There are people that have posted on here who have joined MLMs who hustled and made decent cash though

Someone tried to recruit me to one of these over the weekend.

"How would you like to fire your boss?"

"I get paid to travel, and whatever I spend, I get reimbursed for. All the stuff you spend money on every day, your cell phone bill, McDonalds, gas, when I do it I get paid back for it"

"You see this person, shes 20 and never has to work a day in her life because of what we do"

Its crazy how many people actually buy into this stuff.

Actually some of these programs is good if you can work it. I did that prepaid legal which is well worth it, and I made nice change off it and residue income per month

I don't think anybody is denying that u make money. The issue i have is you may end up taking advantage of your friends and family to do so.

Man one of my long term friends asked to meet up for a drink, haven't seen him in a while. He brought up Amway, gave me kind of a soft pitch, saying it is going to lead him to financial freedom, just hit him with  Can't believe dude hasn't done his research :smh:

It seems like all of these companies have the same corny sayings. One team one dream, six Saturdays and a Sunday, big ego small bank account, everyone is "family", etc. Then they have the nerve to crap on other people who go to school and on people who work minimum wage jobs. Not cool.

That last part is what irks me. That arrogance on their part.

Someone one should do a documentary on some people who join veema or wake up now or any of those schemes, Film them when their talking about how their an "independent business owner" then do a follow up a year or two later to see where their heads are at, and if they can swallow their pride and admit they got hustled.
