Condo developers build separate entrances for lower income residents

don't even waste your time fam apparently.... if you don't make enough money to pay 5K + a month rent your a poor leecher who sits at home all day & pops out kids. The fact that this comes from someone who claims they grew up poor disgusts me.

I kind of got a feeling of your envy of the rich based off your the few post in here.... but that statement is filled with self hate my man & it all makes sense now.

Because there is only RICH and POOR neighborhoods...right?

These type of threads usually come with the feels, so ya gonna miss me with the insults.

I live in an area where I can afford to live in based on my income, you want to be mixed in with millionaires while you pay a fraction of what they pay to live in the same building that is YOUR problem if you feel a certain type of way when these people look at you sideways.

Dude is completely oblivious. The aforementioned post reeks of separation from reality. Folks get opportunity, make a few dollars, buy a few overpriced garments & all of a sudden everyone else is beneath them.

Who ever said such thing fam?...I'm not claiming I'm better than anyone, I just know MY place in the social ladder and everyone else should as well....I would live to live lavish in a luxury building in the UWS, truth is, I CANNOT AFFORD TO....therefore I'll stay my *** in my suburban middle class neighborhood.

 @ ya literally making the separate entrance to the building sound like the Bronx in the 80's to try and back up ya claims, and I'm the one disconnected from reality

Yes it's bad, but if the people who will be renting out the space don't mind, it shouldn't be an issue. They'll know up front about it.
Again they went to court about the issue because the poor door was implemented after the tenants were selected for the apartment, it wasn't included in the lease.

The plane analogy sucks. You don't enter through the emergency exit when you board with coach class tickets.

The entrance is the crux of the issue. No one is complaining about not receiving amenities.
Disregard my analogy that "sucks" then. Let's use yours.

I would gladly pay 1/5th of the payment to go coach and tell me to enter in the emergency exit. If you tell me by paying less I will get less amenities and tell me ahead of time the deal that I will enter a different entrance for paying this EXTREMELY DISCOUNTED RATE, I will gladly pay that rate and gladly abide by the rules I signed on to. If I felt disrespected or that my civil rights were trampled on, I would simply not give them my business. This does not trample on my civil rights, nor disrespect me.

If you said the deal right now is you get coach seats 1/2 off, the caveat is you have to enter through the emergency exit, I would enter through there with a smile on my face. You can even post a sign that says "CHEAP SEATS, THIS ENTRANCE"

I'll just leave this here...

Of course some of you would claim this is remotely similar to race segregation.

Race wasnt really the point.

Segregation is segregation anyway you flip it or flop it(please look up the actual definition before you reply, not the popular definition), no matter if its for race or wealth. Doing it for money doesn't make it any better than doing it for race.

^ okay, I'll revise

You tell me when I get to the airport "oh yeah, to get the 1/2 off, you need to go through the emergency exit with the sign that says "CHEAP SEATS, ENTRANCE". I will go through the emergency exit with a smile on my face. But, I will be feeling a type of way that I wasn't told ahead of time.

Good for you, I guess a plane ride is the same as your living space.

Can't even believe some of ya'll are cosigning this garbage. Wish I had more time to discuss the implications that go beyond just these apartments. Similar things have been happening across the city. See here: http://7online.com/archive/9443374/

Gentrification is literally eating this city neighborhood by neighborhood. And we're letting it happen. New York is not the playground of the rich and this 2nd class citizenship that's being created is disgraceful. Housing breaks such as this are meant to lend a hand up to those who may just be in an unfortunate spot or those who have been priced out of their neighborhoods. Riddle me this. What happens when someone who moves into one of these lower income residences starts to do well for themselves? Is he/she then allowed to walk through the front door and use the buildings other amenities? Get real.

Yall really saying if your landlords right now where you live offered to lower your rent by $500 you would refuse?

To go through the "low income" entrance, they'd refuse apparently. People care a lot more than I thought about the entrance. The non"low-income" entrance must be made of gold with an escalator leading to the elevator, shoes shined, air is triple distilled, mandatory BlowJ0b at the door

You're missing the point, the entrance is part of the amenities. You got the doorman, the stupid wheelie thing for your package, and the view. So your landlord wouldn't be offering $500 to walk through a different door :rolleyes, it would be for the pool, the community room, storage, gym, etc. Yeah I would refuse.

Wait.

Will the "low income" tenants be able to go through the front door as well?

I think some, including myself, are assuming that the "low income" tenants wont be able to go to the front door? Will the front entrance have access the the "low income" portion of the building??

If so, what if everyone still goes through the front door?

They aren't being given a choice bro. There is no offer. They're being told where they can enter and exit. You gotta look your friends and family in the face as your explain why you can't walk them through the front door. That sits right with you? Save some money, toss dignity out the door? There's a level of civility that's involved here that some of you seem to be missing. Your neighbors smirking in your face as you are forced to go in the back and they're greeted in the front by the doorman smh.

This is a Supreme Court case waiting to happen. Before I go into it, it'sgood because kids can go to better schools, have friends who will have money, be pushed in a different direction.

But, the first person denied access to some amenitie because of their address, the Us Supreme Court will be involved.

Lol I gave up on this thread. Cats trying to say they would do this. I guess whatever works for you bros and broettes.
