Yo everyone just seems to get crazy cognitive dissonance when it comes to "overachieving" in sports. It's the only place where you can be average and every part of your team is "amazing" because they were better than people's expectations.

Noah is an MVP candidate and DPOTY, Thibs is a top coach, Gibson is 6th man, all because the team was average? And yet that's all true and they still overachieved? It doesn't make logical sense.

Reminds me of the Colts winning COTY and Exec of the year and Luck still has "no help". All those things aren't possible at the same time.

POR/HOU & MEM/OKC are a toss up for my favorite.

I have loved seeing Orlando Dwight flashbacks & even though I love KD/Russ you just can't hate that Grizz team, they don't lay down ever.

actually portland vs rockets been funner.

and i would like to see zbo vs griffin
Those games come on too late for me but I don't think they have been as competitve as the OKC v MEM matchup. Hell, HOU almsot got swept

They actually can and don't have to be mutually exclusive. Just look at the roster, Who on that team would you consider an elite or even average offensive player. Good up and down that roster and list those players as offensive or defensive specialists? One that commands constant attention or can get a double team to get others open looks? Hell they traded away their best offensive threat outside of Rose in Deng and actually played better the rest of the year. How is that not overachieving?

If the clippers were to win the title (lmao) would it go down as one of the best storylines ever or no?

I wanna say yes but all the people in the media patting themselves on the back and praising the NBA when starlings character has been known for decades is getting on my nerves. A lot of people are playing dumb

Plus Chris Paul is a flopper.

this.

it's funny how stern was policing the nba with dress codes and fining guys criticising refs (cuban, jvg), pop for sitting out starters, and if i read correctly did absolutely nothing as far as disciplining sterling.

plus blake griffin is a flopper

I don't agree with you, I think they are mutually exclusive. In my opinion if you have an MVP type player, DPOTY, and 6MOTY then being average is not overachieving. You have to pick and choose who you give that level of praise to when the ultimate product on the floor is nothing special .

To me it's similar to having a .500 team send 4 guys to the all star game.

The Spurs/Mavs series has been great too. Other than G2, each team has had the lead late in the fourth.

Each game that Dallas has lost, they've had a ten point lead at some point in the game.

Me? I'm in the middle of your position.

I agree that being average w/ a DPOY, 6MOY, and MVP-type player is not overachieving.

I disagree that having a COTY and Exec Of the Year dissolves any "No help!" arguments. COTY and EOY aren't putting points up or stopping anyone from scoring. DPY/6MOY/MVP-types are actual players, directly responsible for the quality of play.

Thing is they haven't been average when they've had all their pieces. Rose there, they finish 1st in the East go to the conference finals once and 1st in the East again, but then Rose tears his ACL the 2nd year. When you take all the offensive threats off the team, damn right they're going to look average on that side of the ball. They are consistently excellent on defense though no matter who is out there. I've already put the efficiency rankings in here earlier; they've been above average as a team when the guys are there.

The games have been too late for you, but don't think Hou/Por has been been as competitive as OKC/Grizz...so does that means you haven't watched any of that series ?

Key facts between Grizzlies vs Thunder:

- The Grizzlies and Thunder have played each other 32 times (including last night's game) since the 2010-11 season. The Grizzlies are 17-15 overall.
- Out of those 32 games, 9 of those games have went into overtime. The Grizz are 7-2 in those games
- They have played more than over 1,000 minutes than any other NBA matchup since the 2010-11 season
