Ferguson gets Pettis/Barboza winner?

Or will Chiesa actually get that fight?

And where is Al Iaquinta these days?

Ramadan doesn't start until June 6th

Give him Ferguson in late May and let that be for the #1 contender.

I don't wanna see Ferguson get the winner of Pettis/Barbosa since he already submitted Barboza. The LW division is very interesting right now.

I think Khabib takes it unless RDA fights a perfect fight, staying on the outside, constantly pressuring Khabib and picking him apart over the course of the fight.

I feel like in a battle of attrition however Khabib will find a way to take RDA to the mat and grind him down.

Really looking forward to this rematch but I really don't see it turning out any different from their first meeting.

khabib is such a freak. giving rockhold dat work in training.

Honest question has khabib ever even been in a close fight? I can't recall anyone getting close or even being competitive

Dude is a legit cyborg it's just difficult imagining him getting worn down unless his knee isn't fully healed

Tibau. It was a horrible fight and both of them basically did next to nothing, but people debated the decision afterwards (I think Sherdog and a couple other sites/writers scored it for Tibau), and Tibau managed to stop alot of Khabib's takedowns. That was 4 years ago though, but still.

bellator's event in July will be headined by kinbo vs james thomson. The crap show continues.

one thing about stopping khabib's takedown, aside from just being at a really high level, is the multifaceted nature of sambo. he can shoot in like a freestyle wrestler, trip and toss like a judoka, and suplex like greco-roman wrestler. extremely versatile and difficult to stop from distance or up close, high or low.

once he's got you down, it's downhill from there. it's a slow, grueling process of getting the **** beat out of you.

Jackson-Wink fighter charged with hitting strip club employee with gun
By Katy Barnitz and Geoff Grammer
Saturday, April 16th, 2016 at 6:58pm

Albuquerque-trained mixed martial artist Diego Brandao was arrested Friday after he allegedly hit a Downtown strip club employee in the face with a gun the day before, police said.

Brandao, 28, who fights in the UFC and trains at Albuquerque’s Jackson-Wink MMA gym, is charged with aggravated battery and three counts of aggravated assault, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

Brandao reportedly argued with a DJ at Knockouts late Thursday before leaving the club briefly. When he returned, he was not allowed reentry “due to his behavior” and “attempted to force his way in by throwing punches” at employees, police said.

He left a second time and returned with a gun, at which point patrons of the club at Central and Third NW were moved into the bar “to shelter in place,” police said.

A witness told police that he, a Knockouts employee and another man were standing outside when they saw Brandao — spelled Barndao and Brandoa in some references — run toward them pointing a gun, according to the complaint. He referred to Brandao as “the UFC guy” and explained that a dancer had shown him an online photo of Brandao on her phone, police said.

Brandao reportedly pointed the gun at the patron’s chest and then at the employee before striking him in the face with the butt of the handgun, police said. The man said Brandao pointed the gun at the group once more before walking back to his vehicle, according to the complaint.

Brandao, a native of Brazil, has a professional record of 20-11. He lost his last fight on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, Nev., at UFC 195 via a third round triangle choke to fellow featherweight Brian Ortega.

Two weeks after that fight, the UFC announced Brandao had failed a drug test taken prior to that fight due to traces of a marijuana metabolite. Because the test was considered an in-competition test (within 12 hours before or after a fight), he was later handed a temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Had the test be conducted outside of that 24 hour period surrounding his fight, he would not have been penalized as marijuana is not prohibited out of competition.

Brandao was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center Friday. He bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.

sambo is the national sport of russia and dudes in that part of the world are incredibly nationalistic, so many of them, especially the top guys, have no interest in leaving the biggest sport in russia for MMA. fedor and khabib were combat sambo world champs, but as far as i know, there's only a handful of combat sambo champs that have left for MMA.

these combat sambo champs: rustam khabilov 21-3 in MMA. blagoy ivanov 15-1 as a MMA. rasul mirzaev was 15-0 in MMA until he killed somebody and is still in prison as far as i know.

as far as fedor, who knows. i'd lean towards father time. dude had been fighting forever and been in a million wars. people forget he was also the combat sambo world champion while simultaneously the HW champ in MMA, so he was constantly taking punishment year-round for a decade plus.

before she got her face kicked in, i always felt like a combat sambo chick could handle ronda pretty easily. ronda's judo would be neutralized, and she would get put her on her back and GNP to death.

sambo is the best grappling base for MMA IMO. the problem is that you need to go across the world to get competent instruction.

only in combat sambo. regular sambo is just straight grappling.

i remember one of my old BJJ coaches telling me the history of how leg locks got introduced into BJJ, and why they were so frowned upon until very recently. story goes that some sambo guys signed up to a BJJ tournament in the early 90's, and they ran through everyone at the tournament with leg locks except for rickson. there were some very prominent BJJ names at that tournament like the machado bros. apparently leg locks were subsequently banned from tournaments moving forward for awhile to prevent the sambo guys from participating. the stigma got attached to leg locks for the next 20+ years in the BJJ community until john danaher changed the game recently.
