49ERS, KAEPERNICK REPS REKINDLE CONTRACT TALKS

ON SUNDAY THE 49ERS RECEIVED A $6.6 MILLION BOOST TO THEIR CAP SURPLUS WHEN FORMER CORNERBACK CARLOS ROGERS' 2014 SALARY WAS WIPED OFF THE BOOKS. THE TEAM GAINED ANOTHER $2.6 MILLION IN CAP SPACE LAST MONTH WHEN ALL-PRO LINEBACKER NAVORRO BOWMAN CONVERTED A PORTION OF HIS BASE SALARY INTO A SIGNING BONUS.

They currently are about $8 million below the salary cap heading into the season. That's enough to accommodate the initial cap hit on a new deal for Kaepernick. General manager Trent Baalke has said he'd like to have the deal completed by the start of training camp, which this year is July 23. #Saints and Jonathan Goodwin have agreed to deal, per league source. Terms not disclosed. He should officially sign on Tuesday.

Wow...well, spotlight's now officially REALLY on you Kaep, if it wasn't before.
Now, the 49ers better win a Super Bowl in the next six years (hopefully more), otherwise this deal is a huge flop.

reports say deal is over $110M, w/ $61M guaranteed

edit: just saw report saying its for $126M. wow.

If Kap keeps improving as he has, and the 49ers win the super bowl within the coming years. Great deal.

I think the front office should have waited till the end of this upcoming year but what's done is done.  Congrats to Kap on getting paid.  Now's it's time to go earn that money.

Better to set the bar now for QB's w/o a ring, before some one else gave out a crazy deal that had kap wanting more gonna be interesting to see how Luck, Cam, RG3 and Wilson's contract talks go after this

My thoughts exactly.

Kap needs to step it up BIG TIME because at this moment he's not worth being the 2nd highest paid QB.

Peace out Iupati and peace out Crabtree for sure now.

And where is Harbaugh's extension? That should of been the first person getting an extension.

edit: I just realized all the draft picks have been signing with that pen

Happy we signed him. Not happy at that total. I was hoping it would be around the 12-15 mil ballpark, closer to the lower end performance incentive laden. Now we're gonna need all of these and subsequent draft picks to pan out since resigning guys is gonna be very difficult. And yea kap is gonna have to develop vastly to make this work
