Increasing numbers of young Americans are heading to college, where they're racking up debt to pay for rapidly increasing tuition costs.

Those graduating are being confronted by a challenging jobs market, which eventually leads many to just drop out of the labor force altogether.

This in turn has led to an increasing delinquency rate for student loan borrowers.

So, it's no surprise that young people are increasingly opting, perhaps out of necessity, to live at home with their parents.

In his latest monthly chart book, Deutsche Bank's Torsten Slok charts the rise of 18-34-years-olds currently in this position.

And there are a lot.

Slok actually sees this as a bullish force to come in the housing market, which is characterized by a homeownership rate at a 19-year low.

These numbers are staggering.

I wonder how kids in college age counted.

You'd be amazed how easy the yambs are when you like by yourself.

They see what this study reiterates

Range up to 34 though? Starting at 18?

I'd like to see what it is from 22 up to age 27 or something like that. Sub 30 at the very least. Would make it more interesting. Counting 18 year olds doesnt make sense to me.

Choosing a college close to home and living at home has been the difference maker for me. After living on campus for the first year I decided to move back, saving a **** ton of money beats living on my own for now. I know to many people messing around outta state man, my boy at UPENN already got ~45k in debt :x only entering his third year too :x

Bring on the student loan bailout... but not for the banks. Give it to all those doctors that owe 200k and watch em go buy houses and Porsche 918s

Glad my mom was crazy and forced me out

inb4 cats say you did it wrong and they're saving for a home, even though it's a huge step to go from no responsibility to owning a home without experience with an apartment.

Thats insane. I can vouch tho. My graduating HS class, i know for a fact most still live with parents. That after college life aint no joke

After college life? you mean adult/real work life?

Yeah thats rough.

Its americas fault that so many people still live with their parents. Population is growing by the hour. Jobs are getting harder to get, tuition increases.

I mean come on now.

They need to start at age 22. Most 19-22 year old students have an apartment at college where they pay bills, but will live at home with their parents during breaks. I was gone for like 9 months out of the year but still needed to be included on the lease, therefore I technically lived with my parents.

Nothing wrong staying with mom or pops!  As long as your financially helping out and working your way out, then you should be fine.  Stayed with mine when times were rough and now they stay with me rent free...

Only problem is having two female adults in the crib. But that's another story.........

I really feel like my generation and beyond has/will have it the worst. My graduating class had the most people trying to go to college + all the people that lost their jobs going back to school only created impacted programs and schools. Making it harder for someone to go to a good university straight our of HS. Then even if we were qualified banks wouldn't loan us money without a crazy high interest rate . :/

That being said I'm 23 and I hate being at home but financially it would be impossible for me to afford to live in LA, hell California by myself. Hence my decision to move to Phoenix. Gt residency and watch ASU tuition drop from 24k a year to 8k :pimp:

im pretty old to be living at home... im not going to post my age to prevent hate... but the good news is i am moving out finally this year hopefully by august :pimp:

Them females that still live at home be too thirsty to play house tho :smh:

previous generations had the benefits of a stronger dollar, higher relative wages, lower house prices, much lower % of tuition from loans - and oh ya - the dependency programming wasn't nearly as strong...

i haven't lived at home since i was 17 but one shouldn't reduce the problem to only laziness

it's actually an indicator as to how the economy is doing - and it will never be the 1950's again (when this country peaked)

There's a higher possibility that you can live on your own if you're living further away from the big cities

as the stress & cost of living goes down so can the wages
but yes, the endangered myth of a middle class has been crowded out of some major us cities simply because one has to be more wealthy to exist in those places than in previous generations
