I took my car to Midas for an oil change last week and these fools forgot to out back the oil cap on. smh

I drove the car back home and when I parked I immediately saw smoke including some strange noises I haven't heard before the oil change was done. I called Midas back and told them what had happened. I told them that they left the oil cap off and now my car makes stranger noises. They told me to come back which I did.

The manager right away started cleaning out the engine and other stuff under the hood. He then told me he'll meet me inside the shop as he told his workers to take the car in. After they redid my oil change, the manager told me that my belts needed to be changed. I was there thinking this guy was trying to pull a fast one on me.

However, I thought my belts needed to be change anyway so I told them go ahead after he offered me some "discount." I was expecting to get a refund from the oil change but never did. After hours of waiting, they got done and my car still making some noises and also one of the pulleys are wobbling. I test drive the car and wasn't satisfied with the work and the service. I talk to the manager and demanded refund. We argued for a minute and he offered me store credit for future service. I almost laid my hands on dude but I kept my composure. He kept telling me to leave or bring back the car so he can take a look at it. At this point I wasn't having none of it.

I went home and called their local office only to get reconnected with the store manager over the phone. haha We argued some more and it's pretty much the same story.

I filed a complaint with BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) and I just got the conformation letter from them today.

So yeah, don't take your car to Midas.

vent ends.

haha

Rather do it myself.
Less work to have someone else do it, but at least you know it was done right.

Reputable mom and pop shop only for me. Oil changes included.

Valvoline did something similar to me, but instead of leaving off the oil cap, the broke the radiator cap. They paid for it, but never again will I go to a chain auto spot.

Yo real talk that story made my blood boil, god.
You better than me, I would've laid hands on son

I did some research and found out that there have been numerous complaint about Midas making this mistake. :smh:

I told him that I was going to file a complaint with BAR and with a smirk in his face said, "Oh you going to do that, they're not going to do anything. In fact I know the manager, I'll give you his number." Bruh, I was so heated and so close on slamming his head on my car in front of his workers.

The manager is one of those fast talking personnel that your gut can't stand. He called himself a "master mechanic." haha

If BAR doesn't do anything, I'm going to have to go at our local court house.

Your car could have a spun bearing due to the lack of oil in the motor. Only way to fix that is to rebuild the block. Could be an expensive mistake.

Dont drive or start it till you get it checked by a mechanic

I'd write a formal complaint to their main office/headquarters and file a complaint with the BBB as well.

George! what's up man?

Truthfully, I don;t know how you keot yourself from hurting him.

This just angers me. Guy is obviously someone who isn't good with cars or customer service. The customer is ALWAYS right. Smh at him for not making it right.

Which location was it? I'll gladly help you out brother. :pimp:

I feel like this could happen anywhere though... Just depends on who you get working on your whip.

which location in the bay?

dont be shy just blast the address on here.

theres a lot of us bay area folks here, and a bunch of lurkers trying to take our deals of course lol

post a review on yelp too.

thing is though you prob ran your car with no oil for a long amount of time. chances are your motor is done. and as one guy said thats a costly fix. either new engine, or rebuild of some sort. top or bottom end, soemtimes easier to just do a new motor swap.

if its oil in engine bay, im assuming the smoke is all the burnt oil that splattered out on the manifold and other hot stuff to cause it to smoke. but if your hearing other noises, i dont know how much oil was lost. ive ran on a car that shockinly only had 1 quart of oil and it still was fine. but all cars are diff.

good luck man, small claims if that engine is blown and they making you pay

Am I less of a man cause I dont know how to change my oil?

No, but you're less of a man if you pass on the opportunity to learn.

Its relatively easy. All you need is an oil pan (to catch the oil,) a socket wrench, and of course some new oil. If you're replacing the filter, a couple more things.
