QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

Russell was below average in the playoffs last year. He didn't even show up in the SB until the second half, when the game was over after Harvin's return. I don't think Russell even cracks my top 15.

I didn't say Brees' numbers massively dip on the road. His team operates differently on the road. Brees gets his offense playing like a Madden game at home and not so much on the road. If you're picking a QB for your team right now, you really picking Brees over Luck today? As a Giants fan, if you tell me I could get either QB for this season, I'm going Luck.

Interesting how you can get "stats" when you are up 29-0, and those "stats" somehow prove how good you are, and fans sweep that fact under the rug but continue to point to "stats" when it suits their need.

I don't remember any game managers- Mark Sanchez, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Alex Smirh... Having even above average stats in fact.

With one of the worst o-lines in football and no true #1 WR.

Well God bless Pete Carroll for getting that 29-0 lead and then letting his QB get his numbers real quick whereas those other game managers head coaches didn't allow for such luxuries.

Not sure how Wilson is the first game manager ever to have record-tying numbers because of his defense and running game . What happened with those other guys?
Dude look who you are comparing him to though.  Mark Sanchez, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer and Alex Smith......In other words, garbage, garbage, garbage and garbage.

Logic is too silly to even engage.

Oh great. Andrew Luck vs. Russell Wilson. Wilson's playoff numbers. How refreshing.

I wouldn't put Luck top 5 right now.

Can't believe some dude said Luck over Brees. And 100027 100027 , if you could trade Russell Wilson for Andrew Luck straight up right now, would you do it? Yes or no?

Do you want Brees or Luck starting for the Eagles this season?

No, because I believe in the leadership and team chemistry that's developed and why blow that up.

Ask anyone if they would trade a QB who just won them a Super Bowl.

...Also because he's performed significantly better over his first two seasons and he has a tiny contract, but those facts aren't welcome here.

I saw this answer coming and I cant say I disagree with you. Although, I super disagree that Wilson is better than Luck. But why start messing with hypotheticals when the reality is Wilson just won a Superbowl. We can also flip this conversation to who's to say Wilson isnt capable of doing more if he was required to do more? Wilson has never been a slouch. I think he is capable of doing more if the system around him was planned to do so, but its not. I dont blame you for being in "if it aint broke dont fix it " mode but I dont think Wilson will ever be better than Luck.

I am still not sold on Luck, his turnovers are more concerning to me than others. Until he gets that under control I think he is an average to good qb. I wouldn't trade him if I were the Seahawks either, Russell Wilson makes much better decisions when a play breaks down.

Drew Brees in Chip's system would run train bruh. Luck would be intriguing because he can also add that running element, but for this season? Brees easy.

But 100027 100027 that's a real good point I can't argue that lol. But take every other team besides the Colts and Seahawks and ask their fan bases and GM's which of the two they are going to take to build their team around. You'd be hard pressed to find people choosing Russ over Luck.

The whole "Andrew Luck needs to cut down on his turnovers" idea is tired and not entirely accurate.  His INT% in 2013 was 1.6%.....which is better than Tom Brady and Drew Brees...and only slightly worse than Peyton Manning's 1.5%.

Would you say those three QBs need to cut down on their turnovers too?  I didn't think so.

The only point that was valid is the contract. Which is entirely acceptable. If they both made the same dollars, there is no excuse to choose Russ over Luck and only one fanbase on the planet would argue otherwise, which is sort of all we need to know. But they keep arguing against it. *shrugs*

Maybe this year Pete will let Russ run things more and he'll shed the game manager label (that isn't fair to anybody) and we can start to really crack down on it, but we need to see him leading the direction from jump, not getting his touchdowns in in a freaking 4 score game so his stats look nice and shiny.

The only reason anyone believes this is because of the amount of what is asked of each player.  This is the exact same thing that I bring up when people talk about your favorite QB Alex Smith (and before you get your panties in a bunch, I am not comparing Wilson and Alex.  Wilson is substantially better than Alex.  Not even close).

But where the comparisons are valid is what is asked of each QB.  Both QBs are basically asked to not screw things up.  Neither of which has to worry about making plays more than they have to worry about not screwing things up.  Both the Seahawks and the 49ers/Chiefs had ridiculously good defenses and neither QB was needed to go out and win games for their team.  They also had very reliable running games that said QBs could lean on.  Manage the game and dont make any critical errors is their main goal.  The more that is asked of a QB, the more room for error there is.  And I think Russell is asked to do far less than Luck....simply because he has an all world defense and top running game to lean on.

Andrew Luck does not have that luxury.  If he went into game manager mode, more times than not, the Colts would lose.

All of Luck's interceptions aren't entirely his fault.

Sounds cliche but it's true, just ask his receivers

I actually agree with your last point. After my comment I looked at each qb and Luck is asked to throw a heck of a lot more / do much more for his team.

Some of the biggest wins Andrew Luck has in his career involve him going into "game manager" mode.
