QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

I think Romo is better but man hard to deny how good Joe is in the post season. Depends on the team

Romo is better than Flacco. I know the playoff point well, but it's not even like Romo was average at Green Bay -- he was very good. The one positive about their playoff drought from 2010-2013 is his playoff issues have already passed their expiration date of relevance to me.

A lot of things happened pre-2009, no other players have those variables thrown into the equation.

Improve your daily logic intake so we can clear your system and try to eject some out

Or do what you want, I don't have a preference

 k, so instead of addressing the subject, make a backhanded comment at me.

stick to the script fam, if you can't make a sound argument to support your stance then just relax.

I'm no Flacco lover, by any stretch of the imagination, but he does what he needs to do to win games.

Romo, for one reason or another just never seems to get the job done and we're left making excuses for him. Every season.

Is this a sound argument though?

It's the truth.

We can blame it on the defense,

we can blame it on the play-calling,

blame it on the officiating.

But how many times is this guy going to be put in a position to succeed, fail and we're left making excuses for him?

But he gets a pass because he's Mr. November, he has a great QBR, he puts up great numbers, etc etc etc.

Point blank, the Cowboys let the Packers back in the game and Romo being part of the team is largely responsible for that because HE IS the QB.

He had only 191 yards and 2 TDs against a Packers secondary that he should've laid waste to.

Dez was ******* 3/38 that game. There's absolutely no excuse for that WHATSOEVER. And you know what's more? That happened a lot this past season, where Dez should've been involved more and wasn't. That's on Romo.

On the same token some folks look at a nice playoff run (or two) and pretend like regular season mediocrity never happened..

It's gotta be balance somewhere...

You're letting the defense, playcalling and other factors off the hook just as easily as the people you criticize for doing the same with Romo. In the end, it's all confirmation bias.

Except for the whole Romo being a better quarterback than Flacco thing.

Career CMP%
Romo: 65.2%
Flacco: 60.5%

That 69.9% completion percentage for Romo just this past season is damn near unreachable for Flacco.

Career Interceptions
Romo: 110 (9 seasons as the starter)
Flacco: 90 (7 seasons as the starter)

Flacco has thrown double-digit interceptions every season since enterting the league. Romo has three seasons, including this season, of single-digit interceptions.

You really only have one great playoff run for Flacco to pin up as your argument, but since playoffs is your go-to...

Flacco interceptions in this year's two-game playoff stint (2) is the same amount of interceptions Romo has thrown in six career playoff games (2).

I already conceded that Romo is statistically a better QB.

No denying that.

But when it comes down to finishing out a season, Flacco has already proven he is the better closer of the two.

You're talking confirmation bias but then you bring up two statistical categories (interceptions and and completion percentage) which is also confirmation bias on your end.

Listen dude, I've never been one to look at regular season numbers and judge a QB's potency based on that. It's the same reason I don't regard Peyton as highly as most do.

That last stat was neat, real interesting number. But here's some for you.

Flacco has the most playoff wins by a QB in his first five seasons, 9.

He has the most touchdowns in a post season with 11.

He has the most touchdowns without an interception in a post season with 11.

oh and my favorite, Flacco is 10-5 to Romo's 2-4 in the playoffs.

But that's all just confirmation bias, right? You don't play this game to put up nice numbers, you do it to win championships and finish seasons.

I don't think there's a wrong choice, but I would take Romo. I just don't understand how Flacco can look soooo bad in the regular season and then just turn it on in the playoffs. If you're that good for a 4 game stretch, how the hell do you look so bad in the first 16. It's almost Eli-esque

I personally think Matt Ryan is a joke. I don't understand how a guy that's had Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Tony Gonzalez at some point in their career can't do anything in the playoffs. Stafford can be applied to this reasoning too.

I agree, but......c'mon....

It's not like Flacco was all that mediocre these years. The guy may not put up eye-popping numbers but if you take out the outliers (his rookie year and his 2013 campaign) it's not like he was ever a middling QB.

Guy consistently put up good, above average numbers. Again, not eye popping, but very solid numbers. Double digit INTs, sure, but it wasn't like he was throwing INTs every game (2013 being the exception, again).

Guy is 72-40 for his career with 148-90 TD to INT.

Romo is 75-48 242-110 TD to INT......All those TDs but did they count for more in the win column?

Happy birthday to Joe Flacco BTW. Turned 30 today.

So basically, you are saying that QB1, who basically dominates QB2 in almost every single measurable statistic, is the worse QB of the two because QB2's team success trumps QB1's?

Solid logic.

And I'll add this,

I absolutely HATED Joe Flacco and the Ravens until this season.

IDK, call it a change of heart but I finally started respecting the guy.

Being a Giants fan I hated anything Ravens since XXXV.

I also don't hold any animosity towards Romo whatsoever being a Giants fan. I was actually low-key rooting for Romo after he suffered that back injury this season. He played some incredibly gutsy football and I commend him for that.

A lot of folks made a huge deal about Rodger's calf injury, but little was made of Romo's lingering back injury. A lot of folks assumed he was healthy because of his stellar play to end the regular season but fractures don't just go away that soon. He looked visibly uncomfortable a lot but still made some monumental throws.

All that said, I'll go back to a previous point. Dez Bryant, it's a crying shame that he didn't absolutely pepper Bryant with passes throughout that game. In fact Dez was only targetted 4 times that game. And again, it wasn't the first time this season he failed to look Dez's way.

Now we can blame game flow or game plan, but the fact is you can't target your best weapon only 4 times when the seasons on the line and then blame it on the officiating when you let a team like the Packers back into the game.

So basically, you are saying that QB1, who basically dominates QB2 in almost every single measurable statistic, is the worse QB of the two because QB2's team success trumps QB1's?

Solid logic.

QB1, QB2? Is this fantasy football?

Get outta here with that nonsense.

 This dude said QB1 and QB2.

You want to bring up Fantasy football son? I got you kid, Romo only outscored Flacco by 10 points in standard (6 pt per TD) scoring leagues.

And if you read everything I posted and surmised it with that conclusion, then you really need to work on your deductive reasoning abilities.
