United have always been a conservative club when it's come down to spending. They've joined this party too late. They're just getting into this "multi-million dollar spending business" they're still new to this. Naivety....they'll learn tho.

This, plus we are cheap. Hazard and modric come to mind when skimming a few bucks.

Hazard's agent requested exorbitant wages he didn't deserve at the time moving from Lille. Chelsea caved and broke their normal wage structure because of the bidding war to appease Hazard.

That's still painful to me. But I have a feeling his case was more than money. As with Bale, Levy wasn't going to sell him to United. or any other top team in the prem.

The Berbatov deal, is still a mystery to me on why Levy actually let that deal go through.

Major reason I'm proactively and prematurely selecting the Dutch to win on Russian soil in 2018. Memphis, Wijnaldum, Clasie, Blind, Martins Indi, Cillessen, de Vrij, Janmaat all learned in Brasil through trial by fire. Valuable experience moving forward internationally. Their defense and goalkeeping will be stout not to mention a wealth of midfield options presented by Maher, Strootman, Narsingh. How could I possibly omit the Kongolo brothers as future star defenders.
Russia is going to be a force in 2018. Like the Dutch they will be relatively weak defensively but the attacking talent they have will be immense. Dzagoev, Kokorin, Shatov, Cheryshev, and whoever else emerges in the next four years. Hopefully Capello doesn't sh** the bed manager wise again.

Netherlands' defense will vastly improve by 2018. Blind, Janmaat, de Vrij, Martins Indi. All played significant minutes in Brasil. I think that will be the difference, along with midfield prowess.

I worry for them on the offensive side. Depay will probably be immense by then, but Sneijder, Van Persie, and Robben will all be 34-35. They were so huge this year I don't know who could replace them.

Heavy burden to shoulder. I foresee a team effort offensively rather than individual greatness in years past from Robben and RVP. 3 goals from Memphis, 2 from Wijnaldum, etc. Locadia (PSV, 21-years-old) could be the lead striker by Russia. Service will be plentiful from Maher, Clasie, Strootman, van Ginkel. Narsingh provides bundles of pace. Vilhena another youthful MF option at just 19.

Rojo sucks...

Agreed this guy is overrated. Yes he had a great World Cup but I'm not so sure he will perform as well at United. At Sporting he was ok but with Carvalho cleaning up that midfield it made him look a lot better than he really is. Nani's career is in dire straits, this guy is now becoming a has been. It certainly is too bad

Would you rather have him or a 20 year old Tyler Blackett? (and I'm actually a fan of Blackett)

I'm not going to say Rojo is incredible or great, but he'll give him some depth to an area on the pitch that United is clearly lacking in.

Agreed, this isn't really supposed to be a sexy signing. It's just to bring in some sort of reinforcement on defense, hopefully they're saving the big money signing for his compatriot.

I'm hoping that they also try adding Blind/Benatia or another solid back to strengthen that back line before the deadline.

Most likely out of all you've mentioned.

Yea I'd hope so,he'd be a great fit in LVG's system and he offers much needed versatility on defense. I read that he'd be pretty open to joining and Ajax has said that they wouldn't resist a move for him either. Apparently they're still waiting on a bid...

Typical Ed Woody at work there.

A 24 year old Dutch CDM who even has 2 Champions league matches under his built, and is currently part of the team who won their domestic league.......yet no bid.
