The di maria signing is nice for United's reputation, doesn't solve to much though. That money was needed else where.

I see you haven't noticed United's lack of pace in the wide areas recently, rendering a player like Mata to be a shade of his former self.

Di Maria will stretch defences and allow players like Mata to have a bit more time to make clever passes and through balls.

He is exactly ONE of the type of players United currently need.

United have needed a Midfield commander in Lord knows how long, a winger is nice for pace but again this does not solve United's problem. Understand being excited about the splash of money and a world class winger coming in but a world class winger was probably one of the things united could have gone without in light of other problems they have had.

Everyone knows United need central midfield commander. But there are few who are willing to leave their teams right now. The option of De Jong is being explored, as as well as Blind, and right now Vidal is top priority. But while trying to sign up Vidal, Di Maria became available, United would be foolish not to spend on him.

And I disagree with "a thing United could have gone without", if you watched United's last match, there was absolutely ZERO pace, and no width, making United extremely predictable.

It's a good signing, another piece of the puzzle put down.
