WHY ARE EBAY BUYERS SO $&@! FLAKY???!!!

I hadn't done much eBay selling in a while, probably about 5 years. I sold a fair amount of stuff on here in the meantime and dealt with some of the usual annoying "These still available?" messages that lead to nothing. But the rest have been solid buyers here.

So I decide to get my eBay account going again and unload a bunch of stuff. Out of 4 things that sold last night I only got paid for one and got a message for another one asking for a discount on the shipping. I don't determine the shipping price when it's USPS. I said I'd adjust it and he made up something about paypal issues. Haven't heard a thing.

Next guy messages me saying he bid on mine but found something else cheaper and he's sorry for wasting my time. He bid on my item like 2 hours before the auction ended. I told him I'd have to open a case and this whole thing would take forever and he basically just told me straight up he's not paying.

Few weeks ago I had someone make an offer on a pair I had up and it qualified for my automatic accept offer price. He messages me saying he wasn't expecting the offer to be accepted and he didn't want the shoes. What the hell are you offering for then?

Had another pair out of that same lot where it was just a deadbeat buyer who never responded. It sucks that eBay no longer protects sellers from this kind of hassle. We can't even leave a negative feedback anymore, just file an unpaid item dispute and wait forever to relist the item.

Oh, and I sent out a second chance offer on the pair where the buyer said he just ain't paying. That guy tries to talk me down on the price he bid by like $20.

Sorry for the long post just had to rant. I feel like Mr. Getoffmylawn but eBay didn't used to be this bad with flakes.

I'm having the same experience. About 50% of the winners don't pay. Nothing we can do about it unfortunately, except file for non-paying bidder, then go to your EBAY settings and auto block and bidders that have 2 or more non-pay item strikes. I am done with EBAY after selling a number of shoes I want to get rid of.

I know exactly what your talking about. This is the FOURTH time i have had to re-list my bred 1s due to bidders not paying. I don't even understand it, they bid on my auction all week then they don't pay and they never respond to my messages. Some of them even have good feedback. Why do people do things like that, it is a huge waste of time. Im really sick of eBay. They take 15% in fees and the buyers never even pay. Thats ********

I haven't done a auction in years due to non-paying bidders.

bidding on items was always fun and you could get great deals, but ebay seriously needs to figure something out.

I don't see why they can't set something up to where as soon as the auction ends the buyers paypal account sends the payment automatically, and the buyer would have to choose his method of payment before he bids, (credit card, paypal balance, bank transfer ect...)

I am one of them  But I will say, they should extend the time period a seller is allowed to pay before an unpaid item strike is issued.

Damn I want to unload my collection and I'm trying to figure out what avenue to take to make most profit and smooth transactions.

Reading not just this but all of the horror stories throughout I don't know what the hell I'm going to do :smh:

I don't get why eBay doesn't hold buyers accountable.

Last I checked, its free to make an ebay account to buy with and sellers are the ones paying the exuberant fees and can't leave troublesome buyers any type of negative feedback.

Its so bad that I can't even use the word "deadbeat" in an auction listing without ebay censoring it.

Hell if I'm a buyer, if I wanted to be a scumbag, I could bid on 10 different auctions for the same item and only pay for the one I won for the lowest price and flake on everyone else and ebay won't do anything about it and that's a terrible problem because without the sellers paying the fees, ebay won't exist.

I think that's exactly what happens. Especially after this last one where the guy said "there was something else I wanted that was cheaper..." WTF?? What do you think this is? Just don't bid, then. Too many kids playing around on there and too many people asking for deals and **** after they already won the item.

craigslist is even worse. Id say at least 50% of potential buyers on CL are either Lowballers or just plain flakers. at least with ebay you can require immediate payment and such

Just closed a case for a non payer. Changed who can bid on my shoes now we will see

Because it's easy. What real penalty do they face?

They can bid on 4-5 different auctions and pay for the cheapest one. Easy

banning users who have 3 or more unpaid item strikes would be a good move.

Sure they can create a new ebay, but they can't use the previous bank account or debit cards linked to their banned ebay account on the new one. It won't stop the problem completely but it will put problematic buyers through loopholes if they want to open a new account.

What jj watt said is spot on though about a good chunk of sneaker buyers on ebay. Your dealing with immature kids so you get immature behavior. Outside of sneakers I really never got the deadbeats in the past on that level.

To the dude who mentioned craigslist, its free to sell on craigslist. I could deal with potential hassles when I'm not paying final value fees, PayPal fees and shipping costs. Its easy to simply ignore lowballers, set meetups up, where the buyer comes to you so if they flake, you didn't waste too much time and just sell in a first come first serve basis.

If I get flaked on with craigslist, it doesn't cost me nothing but a few minutes of my time. If I get flaked on on ebay, I wasted a week (7 day auction) plus 3 days (waiting period for the buyer to pay) then have to wait a few days to get my final value fees refunded and relist again. That's way more of an inconvience then dealing with craigslist.

But who cares about their feedback knowing they could just make another name? For buyers you can always just buy and pay even with zero feedback. There is really nothing eBay can do

You can make new accounts but you need to have a different bank account or debit card to put for each new account you make.

It is what it is with ebay though. As a seller if I do auctions, I check the bidders feedback because since you can't leave a negative, sellers will put bad stuff about the buyer on a positive feedback when warranted. I just cancel low feedback bidders bids if they don't contact me before bidding and block them after that. Its inevitable ill get deadbeats but I try to minimize them as much as possible

What sucks is when they bid so close to the end if the auction that you can't cancel their bid. Deadbeats gonna deadbeat. In the world if eBay you're at the mercy of buyers and I hate that.

It sucks. Best thing id say for stuff like sneakers where you dealing with a wishy washy audience is just the buy it now immediate payment required route.

It may take longer to sell but I feel better avoiding the hassles of having to list something over and over again and deal with annoying buyers.

It's because it's a bunch of Teenagers on summer breaks. If you're not watching pron you're looking for things that will help you acquire more swag online.

Kanye shrug.

That's what I did when I sold off the vast majority of my collection a year ago. That and Craigslist meet ups

Definitely not just Ebay pretty much anywhere you sell online or off. Especially with shoes clothes etc.

I've had dudes on CL call wanting to meet up we agree on a time and before I can literally walk to my car they call back with some BS excuse.

I''ve had sellers on EBay flake so to speak too though. I pay via paypal right after the auction ends "I'm Wanting to wait for paypal to release the funds" :rolleyes not understanding paypal won't release until after delivery/feedback OR if the auction ends and the price is low they won't ship

Just bought some shoes for the first time in years off eBay. Seller said he was on NT. I'm gonna post pics of the shoes in the legit check once they come in just because I don't even know how to tell anymore.

Made my girl bid at the last possible second because I was at my bball game. Ended up winning and sent the payment a couple hours later when I got home. Wanted to send him a message asking him to wait til I got back from Puerto Rico next week before shipping them, but then figured he might start overthinking it and think I'm a scammer or something so I just didn't send him the message.
