Tony Stewart Strikes driver during race after he gets out of car

:wow:

Just saw the footage. It's hard to place blame on Stewart when this dude was in the middle of the track. Do any of you honestly think he would try to hit him with his ******* car?

Awful situation...moronic of the driver to get out of the car, and RIP...but I feel horrible for Tony Stewart.

No charges filed at this time, probably better for them to investigate first and then determine what's necessary. Good decision no to go today

Any truth to the rumors that Stewart was wearing a GoPro camera on his helmet?

Damn.

When I first saw this on SportsCenter I thought Tony Stewart and Kevin Ward got into a crash during a race and he died as a result. Saw the video of the incident just now and no bueno.

Bad situation all around.

Not down with people saying Stew did it on purpose or even tried to scare him. there is no evidence that suggests that.

Idc its stupid for anyone to go out that far on the track and just stand there. regardless of if thats the "norm" in situations like that.
One of the main eyewitnesses, Graves, testified that Stewart apparently hit the throttle. The timing is hard to justify as coincidental. It's plausible Stewart attempted to scare the other driver, or worse.

His team played it wrong in the aftermath using language like, "Business as usual." That's crass and not going to generate public support for Stewart.

The media not in the slightest is reporting that Stewart was scaring or spooking Ward, which is tremendous for Stewart. Until the media starts to report otherwise, I think Stewart will be in the clear.

Of course at this time the focus is on the loss of life, but the investigation is ongoing so we'll see. If it was obvious he was spooking Ward I think that would have been the first thing the media jumped on. They're ruthless

R.I.P. to Kevin Ward Jr.

As for Stewart, the video didn't look good. I wouldn't be surprised if he did hit the throttle with the intention of scaring him... whereas you saw the car right before him slow down a lot more and clearly moved to the inside of the track.

We'll have to wait to see what happens.

From the sounds of it, I think the growing sense that Stewart tried to scare Ward will eventually lead to consequences. It's only a matter of time before the media jumps on this angle. I think a lot of this hinges on the media. There is a strong contingency on message boards that Stewart definitely is at fault. Yikes

Don't wanna speculate too much, like I said in my previous post (should wait for all the facts), but I'm in the "he tried to scare him" boat too.  Sure, I've heard that Stewart is a hot-head, but crashing into another guy's car in the heat of the moment is one thing... running a man over is another.

Having said that, I don't follow US motorsports, but watch a lot of F1, touring car, Le Mans, etc... and to have a driver run back onto the track (on the racing line even) is unheard-of.  You just don't do this sort of thing.  It's very dangerous, not only for the guy running out there, but also the other racecars and marshals.  Lets say a driver, while trying to avoid him, spins out and crashes into the barrier, injuring a track-side marshal in the process.

At the end of the day, a person died... just a very tragic situation for all involved.

Was reading on another site that Kasey Kahne(sp) said that it's literally impossible to tell what happened from the video alone.

The only thing I'll say is there is limited visibility out the right side of the car.

Why did everyone else with limited visibility break and move inside while he did the exact opposite?

Wow. Crazy situation.

What I wanna know is why the **** would you get out of your car and go to the middle of the track when cars are moving? That's like the dumbest thing you could do.

I'm pretty sure Stewart has been racing for years and he wouldn't just intentionally hit somebody....

Unreal though.

I think people are missing the big thing here.....

I don't think he did it INTENTIONALLY, but he did intent to spook or scare him. That much is clear from the video.

The car prior to him slowed down with intentions to avoid the guy etc.

Tony knew hitting the throttle on the car would kick the tail of it out towards Ward on the track. I don't think he had any intention to hit him.

That being said, I think what he was doing was the equivalent of "bucking" at someone like you're going to punch them with a stock car. He just happened to connect. :smh:

Guy shouldn't have ran out on to the track though.

The moral of the story is this... when there are cars going that fast around the track especially at night... you don't get out of your ******* car and start pointing at drivers.

Thats' like the dumbest thing you could possibly do.

Idiot :smh:

Sad that he got killed but you gotta be kidding me with that move...

what was he trying to accomplish?

sounds like this is involuntary murder to me
Involuntary manslaughter.

Murder always has intent.

I don't think it was dumb for the kid to get out of his car, I think it was dumb to stay on the tracks. At the same time, though, the caution flag went up. I'm no expert but I don't believe you're allowed to accelerate when the caution flag comes out. Neither side is faultless, just happened to have the worst possible outcome.
