I believe my mother has paranoid schizophrenia. She has this intuition that somebody is after her, and that the television/electronics are spying on her, or somebody is hacking our house with electronics. She is from Japan and moved to USA in 1992. Anyways, while I was pretty young (7 or 8) she ran away and almost slit her throat, it got that bad. We found her and she was put in a mental hospital or something for about 6 months to a year, but she got out of that place and has been living with us ever since.

Nowadays she tends to think that people are impersonating people. My Auntie moved to Chicago and my mother believes that she saw someone who looked just like my auntie, basically impersonating her and spying on her or whatever...I also catch her talking to herself, but it's as if she is having a conversation with herself....Anyway I'm just looking for some help, she does not want to go to a doctor/psych, and she truly believes that something is messing with her with hacking...if anybody can provide any good forums or any resources I would appreciate it

Has it been a continuous, ongoing problem or is it intermittent?

If it's the latter, she could be bipolar type I.

Best advice I can give is consult a psychiatrist on what to do.  Looks like @Comparison Ford can offer some help, hopefully other NT'ers can chime in as well.  Hoping for the best, man.  Feel free to PM me if you need to vent.

I have skitzo but I am able to take care of myself once it settled down. Use resources like Mental Health programs in your area. Trust me they look out for her. They can help with providing housing, free movie tickets, therapy and etc

you can't use logic to dispute their delusions/hallucinations.
the right meds can alleviate symptoms but those come with their own set of nasty side effects depending on what med it is and sometimes, a dr. will prescribe more meds to deal with those side effects.

do what dude above said - contact your local mental health organization and see if they can assign her a case worker.

So your mom is Japanese? Are you Japanese as well? Is your father around to watch over her?

Prob. best to take her to a professional.

Yea that sounds like schizophrenia, just make sure you get her medicine, because if i'm right if she doesn't the state depending where you live can just straight up take her and institutionalize her. Good luck, i saw my mother and my aunt take care of people with alzheimer's/ dementia you have a long road ahead of you, I wish the best for you and your family.

Offer strong positive/emotional encouragement. Especially regarding treatment. Some may forget the simple basic needs such a food, hygiene..etc..
Had a 17 yr old clt last yr who would stand for 3-4 straight pacing and would fake sneeze and hiccup.
Another thing I learned is to not question their crazy comments or Shame them.
As stated above seek smi programs and family counseling.
