Richmond, VA man commutes 7 hours total each day for his "dream job" in DC.

^ i'll try to explain (DC natives please chime in as I aint from the 'Urea')

In short, DC proper in the early 2000's underwent a seeming rapid gentrification in many historically black/brown and 'undesireable' neighborhoods; ex. U st, Columbia heights, Shaw, Mt. Pleasant. These are neighborhoods that for the most part, until the early 2000's, were seen as unsafe and many whites would not consider those areas viable to live in. But over time businesses (many bars, lounges, night clubs) moved in catering to a younger, more affluent crowd which attracted those types to move into the neighborhoods. It's currently in full effect in the H st NE corridor near Trinidad, which a few short years ago was considered by many to be one of the worst neighborhoods in the entire country (see WaPo article from 2008 here)

richiecotite richiecotite correct..besides certain parts of SE ..this ain't the chocolate city no more. You got white girls walkij there dog in parts of the city that were terrible jus 5-6 years ago. PG goin take the hit cause Moco an VA ain't having it

not surprised with the results but its like someone heard this guy's story and did this study

"It's little surprise that lounging on a couch all day watching episodes of Revenge  is bad for your health -- according to recent studies, sitting for more than four hours a day leads to all kinds of maladies, including heart disease, diabetes and cancer. But that also means your daily commute can be as bad for your health as sitting in front of a computer all day--and as the average time spent commuting has increased, so the risks have increased. Nor does extra exercise necessarily offset the detrimental effects; researchers have found that there was no difference in heart disease risk between those who didn't work out much, and those that exercised for more than two hours of exercise a day if they were sitting for an extended of time."

Basically the ones forced out are going to have to move somewhere, and PG is pretty much the only closest semi affordable area.

I doubt it. DC been pushing folk out and closing down housing projects over the last decade, but crime in PG has been going down. I have no clue where everybody is going but it's not looking like they're coming here.

Where do you guys get 120k from? I don't see anything about how much he makes

That's a lie. There are pockets of affordable housing in all those areas. Rent controlled buildings, section 8 etc.

If this is ultimately the plan God has for him who are we to judge?

Your rustle game is fierce.

DC a living legend.

I'm sayin though  Thought he was gon hit u w/ the rustling from the blind side but instead just smack u in the face wit it directly.

But I feel it makes more sense for him to move closer to work and visit the fam and friends on the weekend. He'd have more time to spend with them.

Who's backtracking? You're really going to consider those absolutely small amounts of areas as something? With rapid gentrification and $800,000 townhomes popping up right next to them? Don't be ******* silly and take it literal to the tee just for arguments sake. Nova=DC right now as far as pace of development. You know this, don't waste peoples time because you saw one urban family one time. One of those irritating dudes that see something once then say "this always happens".

Definitely, but I wasn't considering further out spots like wood bridge or brandywine.

Yeah, anything north of lorton and you're getting taxed. Even the "hood" areas off Rt. 1 still want 1400 for a garden style 1 bedroom.

Between the high rent and getting harassed...i'm good off NOVA

NoVA = $$$$$$$$$$$$

In Arlington alone, you probably won't be able to get a house for under 800k in a few years.
