The thing with DJ walking is it doesn't leave us with too many options. With or without the DJ signing, the Clips are over the cap. (i'm just restating what I've read in a few articles) The reason we can offer him the money we can is cause he's our own player (Bird rule) so if he walks we can't just offer that money to another player. Correct me if I'm wrong but thats the gist of what i've been reading.

p.s. I want to feel what DubNation is feeling. :frown:

He's a con man for real.  Talks in platitudes and hides excuses in "cute" little remarks.  The media eats that **** up too.

That curse quote is a perfect example.

Read somewhere else that he compared the Clippers to the Warriors and said it's hard because the Clippers have soon to be 3 max players and the Warriors have 0.

Yeah, okay. It's that and not the fact that they value developing their young players that are not their own seed, acquire pieces that can contribute on both ends of the courts and are not antiquated in their approach to building a team .

bad luck, fatigue, lack of depth and some blake griffin choking lost you the series.


The only option is to stay the course. Like the Dallas Mavs after they got beat by the Warriors. Look at the landscape of the league, the warriors are about to get broken up by the cap. Lebron is declining, anthony davis has poor management.

no one is winning ringing off multiple chips.


The clips with rising caps can maybe luck there way into some league minimum vets and a mid level exception singnings and some injuries to key oppenents and win a ring.

I get where you're coming from, but its really not that simple. In today's NBA, DJ probably is a max player. If we don't give it to him, someone else will. And, even if we let him walk, we still have cap issues. We can't just turn around and use the money we would have paid him to bring in multiple other FAs. Since he's our player, we can sign him without getting penalized. We kind of have to do it. Otherwise, it needs to be a sign and trade.

We're over the cap with or without DJ. The only reason we can offer him a max deal is because we have his birds rights. Even if we were to let him walk, we still would have a realllyyyy hard time finding a starting level center eith what we have to offer. We really have no choice but to resign him. At the very least seek some sort of s&t if he doesnt want to come back.

At the end of the day people get caught up in who's a max level player and forget what that term means relative to the team that person is playing for. Relative to the Clippers, DJ is a max guy because we cant get any better, he's become an all nba performer with us, and if we're seriously trying to build a championship team in LA then he is for sure a part of that.

Bottomline is, we're screwed cap wise whether we sign him or not. Might as well sign him, keep the core in tact, and make another run at it next year.

Yes, you read that right. We're working out draft prospects even though we don't have a pick. Suggests that Doc might be thinking trade. We'll see.
 
Out of that list I like Saunders, Dawson and Wells.

Oh and the team is close to a SL deal with Royce White. Major anxiety issuses aside, the guy can hoop. Low risk, high reward.
