Scarlett Johansson is up for Ghost in The Shell

Did her arms rip off like the anime?

The final tank scene is almost identical to the Anime version minus the Major having that crazy gun. So yes the scene where she rips off the tank head is in there but it was incomplete CGI. The entire scene is exactly like the anime where her back muscles strain and her left arm rips off.

The latest trailer sounded like it had hints of "Making of Cyborg"

Yeah they're going hard using some of the OG music to promote but like I said the movie wasn't done so the music wasn't final.

This is the song they use in the movie for a scene

just saw this thread... didnt know it existed. beating a dead horse but i thought i'd give my view on this...

I once read a blog post by The Hundreds basically talking about why its ok for a white woman to play major for this role.. writer was a white dude.

his argument was basically the fact that GitS is all about identity, etc so it doesnt matter what race major is played as. also the fact that shes a robot... which I agree to some point... but since the writer was white, i dont think he gets it...

asian americans are just so fed up with seeing asians being treated like **** in films. if you look at western films, its always the asian girl getting smashed by the western man. its always the asian man playing the typical nerdy or kung fu role (donnie yen in star wars is the most recent example for me), etc.

just for once it would've been nice to see an Asian play the Major in a Japanese story.

That writer sounds like the type of dude that doesn't think racism exists. If this was an ambiguous character from a short story and the GITS we all know and love was an adaptation, fine. Then sure go all white people with the cast.

But it isn't. This was a Japanese story originally in manga by masamune shirow then later brilliantly brought to life by mamoru oshii. The setting was Japanese. The characters were Japanese. The live action film doesn't aim to adapt some non Japanese source material. It's literally recreating the animated film. As such there can be no excuse made for scarjo playing makoto kusunagi and erasing that name from the film is in fact an admission of white washing. Aramaki keeps his name cuz the got takeshi playing the dude which also highlights the blatancy of it all. In terms of content, GITS is about identity sure but as it relates to A.I. as they were cyborgs and a lot of the movie examined the value of life biological vs man made. But if that was the ONLY goal of the film, then do it without the GITS adaptation and make up another story. It'd be hard tho, what with HBO's superb Westworld, Speilberg's A.I. and Ex Machina.

Look these movie execs don't care. Scarjo is more widely recognized than the anime itself but there in lies the irony as they'd alienate the actual fans of the anime from seeing this film because of all this nonsense to begin with. This is why that DBZ joint failed and why I think this film will as well.

Y'all didn't see the Rurouni Kenshin live action film? Entirely made in Japan and by far the best live action adaptation of an anime I've ever seen. Action choreography, character recreation, everything was really well done. If the Americans made that film, that **** would've starred Zac Effron as Kenshin n ****.

ScarJo and all her thickness should be starring in a dark Black Widow standalone film. That film would be :pimp:

Didn't even know the hundreds still existed.

I never watched the anime but watched a few minutes of arise or whtever it is they have on netflix.

I just finished watching the OG movie last week, it's aight. I've also already finished the 1st season of the S.A.C. anime. I'm currently in the middle of 2nd GIG and things are heating up. I have to say that the OSTs for this franchise are well composed. :pimp:

That second trailer is great. I really look forward to it because it looks different from any movie released the past few years.

I'm gonna give this a matinee viewing when it comes out just so i can see the finished version.

I still don't know how to feel about this. As long as it's not Dragonball status, I think I'll be content

I'm gonna have to watch this just because I need to know how it was executed.

Can you get a movie poster from the theater?

Can you get a movie poster from the theater?

Like the 2 sided giant thick ones? technically no because their property of the studio but you can find vendors on ebay that sell em and sometimes they're given away at premiers put on by radio stations.

There's this book shop down the ways from my AMC and they must have some kind of deal with them because they always have all the new ones.

My buddy just won the red poster from the GITS FB page contest.

I want them to recreate the 1998 animated movie one.

So what do they do with the posters exactly? Send them back to the studios?

I think the theaters just keeps them and then some of those poster stores buys it to resell. Some employees could probably some of them home too.

-The Major is a cold, calculating soldier who shows little to no emotion. ScarJo does not tap into that at all. Plus it would have been nice to see the Japanese protagonist played by a Japanese actress, but that horse been beaten already.

-I can already tell by the trailer that a) the production just wanted to cash in on a big name anime or b) they paid literally NO attention to the series plot wise. Probably both, but if you have seen the movies and both seasons, you can see that there will be conflicting plots in the movie. (The scene with the geisha appear in season 1 of the ANIME where as the fight scene in the water come from the ORIGINAL MOVIE).

-Throughout the whole series and movies GiTS tackles the issue as to what it truly means to be human. The Major was one of the first full-body cyborgs (all limbs prosthetic + full on cyberbrain) as she had a terrible accident as a child. She is seen throughout the series to even question if she really was human to begin with, if her soul, or ghost is even real or 1's and 0's. This was the reason Masamune Shirow named it GHOST in the SHELL (deriving from Gilbert Ryles' theory of "ghost in the machine", look it up).

Of course Hollywood chose to ignore the philosophical aspect of it, giving you yet ANOTHER rehashed "where did I come from?" origins story with a cute white girl doing somersaults, shooting robots, and explosions. Lol.

Really liked this.
