How is gyro pronounced?

I am Greek .

I dont know WHAT THE HECK does Greek mythology have to do with this .

But its called yee-ro .

Actually soo-vla-kee yee-ro .

This is what I've been led to believe.


Do ALL Greek call it that though? I imagine there are different dialects within the Greek language which may change how it's pronounced.
 
Did ya'll never see that poster I posted up above?

It's been around for 20+ years in food spots everywhere.

It's YEE-ROW.

This, they even repeat it back as 'gye-row,' but I suspect that is because they have just given up and are so used to people mispronouncing it

My ex 100% Greek and her pops and grandparents were all born there. Euro / Year-O.

No offense but I am Greek and I live in Greece .

And as I already said the pronounciation is yee-ro .

Funniest thing of all is though that this is a TURKISH food , but many greek emigrants coming back from Turkey made it a 'greek' one also .
